Sen. Cruz won’t endorse Cornyn in Texas GOP race

WASHINGTON — Sen. Ted Cruz is refusing to endorse his fellow Texas Republican in next week’s primary in which a tea party candidate is trying to oust the Senate’s second-ranking GOP leader.

Cruz declined to say whether he will vote for Sen. John Cornyn or challenger Steve Stockman.

Cruz continued criticizing GOP leaders Thursday and said he doesn’t plan to endorse any incumbents or their challengers in this year’s primaries. He did not rule out changing his mind later.

Several senior Republican senators face tea party challengers in primaries.

Cruz’s comments were notable because he is a vice chairman of the GOP committee tasked with winning Senate elections.

Cruz is a tea party favorite who may run for president in 2016.

His comments came at a Washington breakfast sponsored by Politico.

I'm happy with him, and I'm one that voted for him. I'll vote for him again, so get used to him. He's going to be disrupting the GOPe for a while.

“Cruz declined to say whether he will vote for Sen. John Cornyn or challenger Steve Stockman.

Coyness is not an endearing trait.”

Maybe he’s just voting for Stovall, haha.

It’s all good. A vote for ANYONE other than Cornyn in the Republican primary is a vote to force Cornyn into a runoff.

I think Sen. Cruz will wait for the initial primary results (for TExAs) and then do an endorsement.

It is quite likely that Cornbread will not get 51% and there will be a runoff.

If so I am looking for him to go with Stovall.

If Stovall is in the Run-Off; which I hope he is.

Just had the Cornyn conversation with my entire law office. We were reviewing the ballot (we’re all conservatives, staff included) and every one of them went straight for Cornyn. I said, “Wait a minute, let’s talk about this.” After a bit of extra info, at least two of them changed their minds. Not my dad, though - I have great respect for him, but he’s one of those blind loyalists who votes for Cornyn because they went to law school together. I know Cornyn personally and he’s a nice guy, a gentleman, but I think he’s been in DC too long and has gotten too cozy.

I certainly don't want a nice guy there in DC. I want a son-of-a-bitch that will step on liberal toes, and move this country back to where it should be.

Lots of others running besides Stockman, whom I didn’t vote for anyway.
