New York veterinarian driven to suicide after cat custody battle ruins clinic
Dr. Shirley Koshi’s Bronx clinic, Gentle Hands, took in a stray named Karl. But Gwen Jurmark had fed Karl and other cats that lived in Raoul Wallenberg Park, and she sued the vet — and organized a protest against the clinic — to get Karl back. A clinic worker said the lawsuit, online attacks against the doctor and financial problems ‘drove [Koshi] over the edge.’

Dr. Shirley Koshi, 55, owner of Gentle Hands veterinary clinic in Riverdale, was found dead of an apparent suicide Feb. 16 in her Upper East Side apartment, an employee and acquaintances told the Daily News.
Koshi’s death, which is still under investigation by the NYPD and the city medical examiner, was the climax of a downward spiral that clinic technician Will Page said began with the filing of a lawsuit against her last fall in Bronx Civil Court.
Besides financial problems, the lawsuit drove her over the edge,” Page said.
Cat rescuer Gwen Jurmark sued Koshi because she said the vet refused to hand over a black-and-white cat named Karl. The sick feline was rescued in August 2013 from Raoul Wallenberg Park in the Bronx by a good Samaritan and turned over to Koshi.
Ms. Gwen Jurmark appeared on the scene weeks after the cat improved saying this was her cat that she ‘keeps’ along with many others at Wallenberg park,” Koshi said in court papers. “Gwen Jurmark rescues cats … then drops them off in parks instead of finding homes for them.”

I'm confused. Isn't the person responsible for Dr. Koshis' suicide already dead?

Well then the woman prosecuted for the facebook posts that led a teen to commit suicide should be released and her conviction expunged according to your logic.
I was hoping those that are interested in this story, would read it and sign the petition. There are better ways than cyberbullying to handle a grievance....
OMG! The good doctor wasn’t well. Give the cat back, there are plenty of black and white cats available.
Vet nurses cat back to health and you want this cat to be handed over to some nit wit who would release this cat in a park? Are you serious? Have you checked the weather lately? I wonder if the nit wit paid the vet for healing the cat.
Karl the cat was picked up in August 2013, from Wallenberg park in Riverdale, by Julia Kalina and Marion Koenig. These 2 good Samaritans feed these cats that Gwen Jurmark adopts from Animal Care and Control. Ms. Jurmark then drops them off in cat colonys that she says are hers, in parks, narrow alleys, etc, where else,who knows? These poor cats, from having a roof in a shelter, are back in a Public Park, free to roam as strays, with no proof of annual examinations and vaccinations and most of all a warm home, with owners that know how they are doing , every day.
As a veterinarian, I had Julia Kalina complete Client and Patient Registration forms, and Julia paid for Karls, diagnosis and treatment for 3 days. Ms. Jurmark didnt even come to pick the cat up in 3 days, let alone bring this sad sick cat in and pay for its care and she says that she owns this ca !!!. Since Karl needed medication for 2 weeks, and Ms. Kalina couldnt take him home, she left Karl in the hospital and allowed me to keep him. Karl couldnt be kept at the hospital as he didnt like men and other patients. So he has a warm home now.
In court in December, Ms. Jurmark, after protesting in front of my hospital, getting her crew to write false accusations regarding me on the internet etc... HAD NO PROOF of ownership of Karl. She also had no documentation to prove that she had permission to create Unvaccinated for Rabies, Feline Leukemia, FVRCP cat colonies in Public Parks.
Fortunately for me, I am now aware of Rescuers like this woman in Riverdale. I wish her the best in finding homes for every one of the cats she has Rescued from Shelters. Dumping them in Wet, Freezing Parks is a foolish thing to do, in New York city in the year 2013.
Protesting, is useful if there is an honest platform, one can stand on. However posting erroneos information about me, that is vile and repugnant only shows the kind of sweet hard working at her craft, woman rescuer this human being is.

I don’t think the vet’s life is worth giving up over a stray cat dispute. Are you OK with that?
I have a friend who cares for feral cats in the parking lot of her apartment building. She feeds them but cannot take them in because she is highly allergic. My brother is a veterinarian and he supplies her with antibiotics for them when they are obviously wounded and sick. Neither one of these people are going to commit suicide over these cats or the bill for the meds.
People who care for feral cats are part of the problem. They encourage irresponsible people to dump their cats in those colonies.
Wow, this takes the "crazy cat lady" thing into uncharted territory.
People who feed feral cats are a scourge on their community.
The solution s quite simple. Kill the feral cats off. End of story. I know someone who is in the middle of such a project. I applaud him for his service to his community.
Isn't the woman in your example alive?
The veterinarian who is dead was responsible for her own death.
