Kerry Kennedy Says Ambien 'Overtook' Her, Causing Car Crash

A jury was poised to begin deliberations after Kerry Kennedy told them how she accidentally took prescription sleeping pills that then "overtook" her, causing her to crash her car on a highway. Kennedy, 54, took the stand to testify in her own defense Wednesday in her drugged driving trial. She is accused of driving under the influence of zolpidem, a sleep medication better known as Ambien, and slamming her SUV into a truck on a New York highway in July 2013.One final witness, a forensic pharmacologist, is expected to be called by the defense on Thursday to testify to the effects of Ambien before final arguments are made and the case goes to the jury.Within minutes of taking the stand Kennedy invoked the name of her late father, Robert F. Kennedy. Kennedy's famous lineage has been a focal point for the defense as they've tried to present her as an upstanding citizen with no drug or alcohol problems. The daughter of RFK and Ethel Kennedy, whom she was photographed pushing in a wheelchair into and out of court earlier in the week, is also a niece of President John F. Kennedy and was married to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. "Daddy was the attorney general during the civil rights movement," Kerry Kennedy said after taking the stand, explaining to jurors why she grew up in Virginia. "I have 10 brothers and sisters. My mother raised us because my father died when I was 8," she said. Asked how he died, Kennedy said, "He was killed while running for president."

For people, like myself, who have really needed Ambien at times, it is a miracle drug, if used as prescribed. Look for the Dems to ban Ambien for everyone if they can only get their Kennedy off the hook on this one. It couldn’t possibly be her fault.

Kennedies: can’t ski, can’t drive, can’t fly, can’t boat. Did I forget anything. What was the poor taste joke a few years ago? Egypt Air: for only 20 bucks will take you from JFK to JFK Jr

Did she get a blood test that actually showed ambien? If a blood test was taken, is anyone sure that the actual results are HERS and not something substituted by another family member??!!

What kind of an idiot takes Ambien before getting in a car to drive on the Thruway?

Ummm, a Kennedy?

Ambien is a particularly insidious drug. It can be like sleepwalking except you can be lucid, do just about anything, and not remember it the next day

Taken responsibly, Ambien must be a godsend for people with insomnia.

But Kerry Kennedy was not behaving responsibly when she took the drug “accidentally” before driving.

Even old geezers like me have the sense to put our pills in those 7-day divider boxes and to check and double check what we are taking and when.

Which leads me to believe that this woman is an addict of some kind. Really out of it.

Is there a tox test that shows she was actually under the influence of ambien? This is so common amongst the Kennedy clan that I belive they all have standing scrips for ambien so that they have a ready-to-hand excuse for when they drunkenly crash their cars and flee the scene.

That seems to be their standard go-to defense in these situations.

All this for a misdemeanor traffic ticket?

??? Crashed her SUV into a truck because she was driving under the influence of a narcotic sleeping pill. At least nobody drowned like when uncle teddy got behind the wheel but she could have killed a family or two just as easily.

She just implicated herself driving under the influence of drugs. Ambien is a sleep medication. What on earth was she thinking? Oh, right, a Kennedy.

Well, I think that is why she has to claim she took them “accidentally”, because otherwise, Ambien or no Ambien, she is in trouble.

Now, how one “accidentally” takes a drug, is a little perplexing. Does she mix her prescription drugs in with her vitamins and birth control pills, in a big candy dish?

The Kennedys. What an utterly reprehensible clan.

Especially this one, who claims she was never had a drug/drinking problem. Well, given the legendary history of drug and alcohol abuse so intertwined in the history of this dysfunctional family, one would think that if she’s such a “good girl” she would’ve thought twice before popping some Ambiens before getting behind the wheel.

Yeah, they only found Ambien in her system, so they could be certain the blood didn’t come from another Kennedy, due to the small numbers of intoxicants found :)

It should be treated just like it was driving while intoxicated. The directions are clear that you should not take it and drive. Take her license or next time she may kill someone you love.

Ambien worked for me for a long time. But the longer you take it, the less effective it will become. Eventually I found that I could no longer get more than 3 hours sleep with it, and the sleep became less and less deep. Its a hypnotic, and messes with your memory. Look it up if you don’t believe me

Seems to me that there needs to be genetic screening that would be used to prohibit anybody that is linked to the Kennedy clan from ever getting a driver license, the helm or wheel on a boat or ship or the controls of any type of aircraft. These people are a danger anytime that they are put in control of anything.
