Boston, NYC mayors to skip St. Pat's parades

BOSTON (AP) -- Boston Mayor Martin Walsh is threatening to boycott the St. Patrick's Day parade unless organizers allow a group of gay military veterans to march, joining New York's mayor in protesting parade policies on gay groups.

Walsh, the son of Irish immigrants, said Thursday he's been trying to broker a deal with the city's parade organizers to allow a gay veterans group sponsored by MassEquality to march in this year's parade. He said allowing gay groups to participate is long overdue.

"It's 2014 - it's far beyond the time where we should be even having this discussion because they're veterans who fought for this country just like any other veteran," Walsh said.

"I made a commitment during the campaign ... that I would fight for equality and that's what this is all about."

But parade planners appeared unwilling to budge.

Lead parade organizer Philip Wuschke Jr. said gay people are not prohibited from marching with other groups. But he said organizers do not want the parade to turn into a demonstration for a particular group.

"The theme of the parade is St. Patrick's Day. It is not a sexually oriented parade," he said. "All we want to do is have a happy parade. The parade is a day of celebration, not demonstration."

In New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio said he will skip the nation's largest St. Patrick's Day parade in Manhattan because participants are not allowed to carry signs or banners identifying themselves as gay.

"I will be participating in a number of other events to honor the Irish heritage of this city," de Blasio said during a press conference earlier this month. "But I simply disagree with the organizers of that parade."

The Cardinal Archbishop of New York should have already announced that de Blasio and other pro-aborts are not welcome to march in the parade. That would have taken care of the problem.

They can stay the heck home then. The Pat’s celebrants don’t need their agenda driven presence.

IIRC, Kerry doesn’t have a drop of Irish blood, but allowed the morons in Massachusetts to assume he did for decades. He’s German/Jewish, I think.

Since he’s pro-abortion, he’s always had the Irish Catholic vote sewed up, anyway.

The media will now go full out to condemn the parade organizers as barring homos from marching because they’re HATERS!!!!! The facts are, there have probably been many thousands of homosexuals who’ve marched in those parades over the decades. They just didn’t identify themselves as such. Another reason to hate DiBlasio and the stupid Boston mayor.

Just avoid the “Kiss Me I’m Irish” signs.

Exactly. Nobody cares one way or another if some individual participating in the event is gay, but that’s different from making it all about some (fictional) “gay identity” by showing up with a group marching under its own “sexual identity” banner.

Especially one that is unacceptable to the Catholic Church which, like it or not, was the source from which US culture got St. Patrick.

These mayors made political decisions. The homosexuals are more important than the Americans who are of Irish descent. Vote Republican.

Man made holy days like St. Patrick’s day are not on Messiah’s calendar.
His days are clear in Leviticus.

Maybe this is God’s gentle way of telling you all to skip it and focus on the Creator, and not the created..

Who wants the corrupt Commie mayor of NYC in the parade, anyway? If I was an organizer, I’d be thrilled that freak was avoiding it.

They may go full out as you say but they went full out twenty years ago over gay marchers and they lost big time. The organizers simply refused to bow to pressure. There’s been very little outcry from gays in recent years. Which might be a lesson for all of us in dealing with whiners, cry babies and harassers.

They should also invite the nearest Orange Order band. And somewhere there must be an organization of stamp collectors that can be included too. And what about any remaining worshipers of Crom?
