A six-month-long investigation in central California culminated this week with the arrests of five members of the King City Police Department, the former police chief and the owner of a local towing company. According to the Monterey County district attorney, for at least three-and-a-half years the city's top police officers participated in a scheme that took advantage of poor area Hispanics by essentially stealing their cars for profit. Investigators say King City police ordered hundreds of vehicles to be impounded — most often those driven by Hispanic immigrants — and then either kept the cars for themselves or re-sold them for profit. Here is a shocker. Police Department and a towing company engaged in a criminal conspiracy. We all knew this was happening, everywhere. Here they got caught.

Keep voting for those sales taxes to increase funding for your local P.D. They sure seem to need it!

Sounds like New York city except the police own the tow trucks.

How come all the “you gotta give the cop the benefit of the doubt comments I see on FR?”

Cops and tow truck companies have been preying on the public for decades in this country. It is shameful. City Hall, Cops, Corruption. The three C’s.

King City was the biggest speed trap in CA.
If you couldn’t pay the ticket on the spot, you could easily be arrested.
I bet what they did was arrest speeders, impound the car then sell the car when impound fee got too big for owners.

I got caught in a King City speed trap many years ago. They were pulling people over and writing tickets 25 people at a time. It was an assembly line. Very efficient. The SS would have been proud.

“Here is a shocker. Police Department and a towing company engaged in a criminal conspiracy.”

And in this case, the current Chief of Police is the brother of the guy who owns the towing company! According to local press accounts, the King City PD has been corrupt for years. That’s why the past CoP is under arrest too!

This is what happens when laws are for everybody else. The WOD is a corruption machine, along with sanctuary cities, etc.

That’s why when going down to SLO, we used to always turn off on Jolon Rd. just north of King City and take it down through Hunter Liggett. Besides, back then, it was fun to “dodge the battle tanks” that would occasionally be crossing Jolon.

I think a class action lawsuit is in order. Pay back all the money collected by the court plus interest. Bankrupt King City. Remember the citizens of that town voted for the City Officers. Citizens of the town are culpable for using the P.D. and courts to fund the City.

This is not the only town doing this. Once the premise of fines for safety is accepted corruption will follow. It always does. The traffic safety scheme needs to be dismantled. That will take courage. More courage than risk transferring Americans or Freepers possess.

While the ciminal conspiracy obviously needs to be rooted out, impounding the cars of illegal f’n aliens with no insurance, no driver’s license, etc., should be encouraged and lauded.
