The 2011 downing of a helicopter in Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths of 30 American troopsincluding 17 Navy SEALs, a number of whom were members of the SEAL team that killed Osama bin Ladenwas not compromised but did suffer from faulty planning, a defense official said on Thursday.
Some of the families of the fallen said they appreciated the controversial hearing where the official testified. However, they said the testimony left them unsatisfied and vowed to press for more answers.
The contested mission known as Extortion 17 involved a CH-47D Chinook helicopter shot down with a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) fired by the Taliban on Aug. 6, 2011. The attack occurred in Afghanistans Tangi Valley, a critical area south of Kabul where the enemy transited from Pakistan.
All 38 members of the crewincluding 17 SEALs, five Army soldiers, three Air Force airmen, and seven Afghan soldierswere killed in the single deadliest day for the U.S. military in the war on terrorism.
Family members of the fallen troops have raised several questions about the nature of the mission, including whether the Taliban was tipped off to the hot landing zone of the Chinook by the Afghan soldiers involved. The attack occurred three months after the disclosure that SEAL Team Six carried out the raid on bin Ladens compound.

More head games from those in power, Nachum. No truth, only their lies. I only get one vote and I can see November from my home. Feels like a lifetime but soon they that lie will know; We Came, We Saw, We Knew the Truth ... thus BYE.
How can you raid a house and not cover the back of the house?
My Fellow Americans Surround Them This Election and Take No Prisoners.
And 17 SEALs were killed? Weird.
17+5+3+7=38? Were Wiser and his editor journalism majors?
I don’t know whether it was compromised or not. I do however keep asking a purely military tactics question: Why in the hell were so many Special Operations Personnel and their Allied Soldiers piled into a huge “target like a Chinook” and sent into a “hot LZ”? We learned decades ago in Vietnam that when you go into a hot LZ you do it with multiple manueverable aircraft that can return fire (i.e. Huey’s). My question is what Military Commander authorized the centralization of so many personel on a slow moving “bullseye” like a chinook going into a “HOT LZ”? I don’t hear anybody asking this question?
basic, right? fundamentals...
Story read that all 38 crew members INCLUDING 17+5+7+3...This means there were 5 crew members in addition....
Biden with the cracked head compromised them when he announced they were the team that offed bin Laden. It was only a matter of time after that, and I was surprised at how little time it took.
So, I'm guessing a political appointee, or one closely overseen by one. His testimony means nothing in my opinion. As far as I'm concerned he's an undercover operative working directly for Obama's devolution policy for this country
We don’t really need the facts. We just need the pablum these creeps toss out
Faulty planning, hmmm. Blame it on the SEALs. Next, they’ll be blaming the innocent dog onboard.
Yep, just as everyone overlooks the Army unit involved in the Bin Laden raid.
Thirty American GIs and 8 allies, killed in a shot down helicopter, the only ones that count are 17 SEALs.
I took the “ five Army soldiers” to be the crew.
