Ukraine Official: Russia Has Launched 'Armed Invasion' In Crimea Published February 28, 2014

Russian troops moved into Crimea Friday, U.S. officials told Fox News, prompting Ukraine to accuse Russia of an "armed invasion."

At the White House, President Obama said the U.S. government is "deeply concerned" by reports of Russian "military movements" and warned any violation of Ukraine's sovereignty would be "deeply destabilizing."

"There will be costs" for any military intervention, he said, without specifying what those costs might be.

U.S. officials told Fox News they see “evidence of air and maritime movement into and out of Crimea by Russian forces” although the Pentagon declined to officially "characterize" the movement.

Agence France Press quoted a top Ukranian official as saying Russian aircraft carrying nearly 2,000 suspected troops have landed at a military air base near the regional capital of the restive Crimean peninsula.

The main cost will be what is left of his failed presidency. Jimmh Kartah is no longer number 1.

The msm is (rightly or wrongly) framing this as a potentially devastating crisis that could very easily spin out of control (they didn't talk that way about going into Syria).

Prediction: If/when it all blows over, that same msm will credit obama and obama only for how he deftly handled a delicate and dangerous situation. How Presidential!!

When it will have been other factors, no doubt.

Sounds like the western puppets in Kiev don’t even understand their own country’s treaty obligations.

Hillary screwed up the reset button by translating it as “overcharged”. This was after the Russian invasion of Georgia. The Russians went ahead and did what they wanted.

What will J. F’n Kerry screw up this time. “US Secretary of State John Kerry Friday urged all players in Ukraine’s current crisis not to “inflame” an already tense situation in the country.”

Let’s see. He and his boss (and McLame)intervened on the side of the protesters against the elected leader of the country, who then moved to the eastern part of the country. The protesters set up an unelected government led by loonie neo-Nazis. The Russians invaded. And it looks like they’re going to do what they want to this time, too.

It’s time for another mistranslation to take away any notice of how ineffective this administration is.

“US Secretary of State John Kerry Friday urged all players in Ukraine’s current crisis not to “inflame” an already tense situation in the country.”

Told it with his straight horse face, after he, Nuland and the old Alzheimer McCain schmoozed with the nazi militia and inflamed the country?

Russia haven’t waited for the Ukrainian nazis to arrive in Crimea and create havoc. They already have there 14 000 military on their base and want Crimea quiet. So they did what they had to do and Kerry and his golfer boss can do nothing about that, other than try to fight back, which they won’t do.
Generally speaking, the US have no dog in this fight, and I don’t see even why Obama, Kerry &comp would meddle. Let Ukraine and Russia settle that among themselves.

“Generally speaking, the US have no dog in this fight,,,,,,, Let Ukraine and Russia settle that among themselves.”

Don’t you know the new America? We have critical interest in -every- war on earth. And we will always support any insurgent group the EU tells us to. After all, EU trade goals are a critical national interest,, or something like that.
I’m amazed at the people here who seem to actually be spoiling for an actual NATO war against Russia, in their area.

When I see everyone getting huffed up about Russia and Ukraine, I think two things.
First, before I support the Maidan movement, I pause at the thought I am in agreement with the mainstream media, Soros, McCain, Obama, Kerry, Hillary, and the EU. Did they all suddenly get something right? This crowd is almost universally wrong and evil.

Two, just a few weeks ago we were treated to histrionics from this same crowd about the Sochi Olympics. Foreign gays would be arrested and were scared they were walking into a the lions den. Or terrorists would make their move. Athletes warned their families not to go to watch them. We moved navy ships close to the coast for God knows what.
And if the terrorists DIDN’T hit, it would only be proof that Russia had oppressed everyone.

And we all saw probably the best winter Olympics I can remember watching.

Time to slow down and think about who we are joining here when we support the western Ukrainian rioters.

I should add this comment along with yours.

Historically speaking....the Crimea has only been part of Ukraine since the 1950s. It was pushed into this governmental management scheme.

What people ought to think about here...Crimea is made up mostly of Crimea locals, a few Ukrainians, and a fair number of Russians. It would be natural that the Crimean folks want their own deal. The Russians might fall into this trap and think this is for their advantage....but Crimeans are for Crimea, end of story.

Now, this dividing line that I saw on CNN of a fifty-fifty split in Ukraine territory....is a joke. Barely seventeen percent of the country is made of Russians....who are all over the place. To just offer up this type of analysis is stupid. The Crimea takes up twenty percent of the country....if I were Ukraine....I’d put up the fence and say have Crimea today.

One final note....while people rarely get into this topic....there are FIFTY-FIVE-plus minorities or ethnic groups in Ukraine. Two are German-related and have been around since the 1700s. Another one comes out of the Nordic countries from a thousand years ago. So, even as the Russians think Crimea is comfy and nice....they will have lots of ethnic groups demanding to be part of the Crimea new government structure. It’s just a breeding ground for future ethnic woes and more civil war activity in the next decade.

That’s true.
Beside the sports, I fully enjoyed the fantastic open and closing ceremonies.

“Barely seventeen percent of the country is made of Russians”

False.
In Ukraine, 15 million are Russians or russophones, whose mother language is Russian. Not to mention that the “Ukrainian” is a Russian dialect. “Ukrainian” was not used until the 19th century.
That makes 33% of the total population of 45 million.
This is explained by Ukraine history. The Kiev Rus is the craddle of Russia since the year 560. In modern history, the region joined the imperial Russia 350 years ago. The only time in history that Ukraine was an independent entity started in 1991, after the dismembering of Soviet Union by Gorbatchev. Crimea was part of Russia since 1774 to 1954.
