First 5,000 concealed carry licenses being mailed out

Illinois’ first concealed carry licenses were being sent out Friday and could arrive in mailboxes as early as Monday, Illinois State Police officials said.

That’s 5,000 approved applications out of some 46,000 received statewide, officials said Friday.

“We’re going to print as many as we can get through today and continue on Monday,” said Illinois State Police Col. Marc Maton, speaking to reporters downtown.

The blue-and-red licenses — about the same size as a driver’s license — are good for five years.

All approved applicants passed both criminal background and mental health checks, Maton said.

So, law abiding citizens will now get to do what criminals have done all along?

Waste of time and money. Licensing concealed gun owners is the height of folly, and an expensive one at that. If nothing else, states that demand licensing should include a provision in the law that if license holders, as a group, exhibit lawful behavior for a given length of time, then they no longer need to renew their licenses.

Optimally, they need to go “full Arizona”, with the only licenses needed being “courtesy licenses” for when residents travel out of state to less free states. They just keep a pile of xeroxed licenses lying around if you want one. Total cost to the state, a couple of bucks.

Criminals already exercise constitutional carry without permits, licenses or training.

Article says that Illinois is the last state to allow concealed carry by issuing permits. This is a common inaccuracy. In practice, MD and NJ do not issue permits to ordinary citizens. MA makes it very difficult, and parts of NY state do not issue permits (in practice).

The Supreme Court recently refused to hear three cases, including one appeal involving NJ. How are people to get the NJ prohibition dealt with, if the courts simply refuse to hear the case, and instead tackle trivia? They seem to think that they work too hard?

I sure hope they got plenty of body bags. You all know what’s gonna happen. Shoot outs over parking places, blood running in the streets, chi-gago river turning red. All the bad things that come with law abiding citizens all of a sudden going nuts with all that fire power “granted” to them be the benevolent state. Um, probably not.

—yep—I keep reminding them in comments that Wisconsin now has over 200,000 cwp’s out with minimal trouble-—none of the expected bloodshed—

MD and NJ do not issue permits to ordinary citizens. MA makes it very difficult...

Ain't that the truth! Once, thirty years ago, while at my house in Pennsylvania I went to shop at a gun store in Maryland only five miles away. While there, I asked about what someone has to do to get a concealed carry permit in Maryland. After they stopped laughing the clerks behind the counter said something like, "Yeah, just try to get one."

Nothing has changed since then.

Its been a great week in Detroit...4 incidents of homeowners shooting and killing thugs breaking into their homes. And 3 of the shooters were women! The new police chief is the best, not kidding. He has openly stated that armed citizens are helping to prevent crime. They interviewed one of his deputy chiefs on the scene of an incident last night, ..this guy literally had a grin on his face, telling the reporter ‘THE CITIZENS OF DETROIT ARE SENDING A MESSAGE”..IT NO LONGER PAYS TO ROB IN DETROIT”... i get a feeling the national media is gonna pick up on whats going on here. I think its great.

I remember the scene in THE UNTOUCHABLES where Al Capone enforcer, Frank Nitti, shows his concealed pistol, and the CC license signed by the mayor of Chicago.

I thought, Fitting for Chicago.

“Best of all it’s black people who’re doing it to their own thugs.”

Yes, and here’s to the decent black folks in Chicago doing the same thing. But the contrast will be that what passes for the Chief of Police in Chicago will be crapping his pants and gassing about all the ‘carnage” on TV.

Of course he will and that’s because it will be “gun violence,” regardless of why or at whom it’s aimed. Any concern with “gun violence” by itself is actually a dishonest effort to equate the legitimate use of firearms in self defense with the vilest criminal misuse of firearms, the only logical goal of which is to enable criminals and promote crime.

Well all you pro-gun Freepers need to keep a good thought for us folks here in CA that the 90th Circus will let Kamala Harris’ request for an en banc review of their recent decision to strike down our “handgun carry permitting law” go un answered. The date for a justice to ask the rest of the court for an en banc is March 7th.
