Fallin challenger switching to Senate race (Oklahoma)

Former Oklahoma state Sen. Randy Brogdon (R) will drop his primary challenge to Gov. Mary Fallin (R) and make his bid for Senate official next week, his campaign announced Friday.

“Randy had been working to organize a run for governor before Senator Coburn announced his early retirement. Since then, he’s been overwhelmed by supporters urging him to run for Senate. In the next few days, he will make his decision official,” said Brogdon spokesman Louis Waller in a statement.

Brodgon joins Rep. James Lankford (R-Okla.) and Oklahoma House Speaker T.W. Shannon (R) in the GOP primary to replace retiring Sen. Tom Coburn (R).

He has been receiving encouragement from conservatives in the state unhappy with their options after Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.) opted out of the race.

Brogdon launched his second challenge to Fallin in December after losing to her in the 2010 gubernatorial primary. Conservatives are bullish on his chances if he does enter the race because he drew nearly 40 percent of the vote in that last race, despite running an underfunded campaign.

They also believe Brogdon could draw on untapped resources and support because he’s based out of the Tulsa area, while Lankford represents the Oklahoma City area.

Still, he remains the underdog in the race, as Lankford and Shannon both have stronger fundraising and political connections in Oklahoma and nationally. The primary contest looks to be a race to the right, and whoever gets the nomination is expected to easily win in the general.

As I understand it, Lankford is the most moderate of the candidates so either Brogdon or Shannon would be better.

But Oklahoma Freepers can weigh in.

Brogdon will split the conservative vote and allow Lankford to win. This is moronic on his part

Would you rather go against Mary?

Yes I’d rather Brogdon go against Mary. She’s got a liberal streak in her.

I want TW to win this race so bad. This man will be Oklahoma’s version of Ted Cruz.

And that ain’t no lie.

I dont’ care what he does, but in doing this, he’s going to hand the seat to someone who is too moderate for OK.

“Brogdon will split the conservative vote and allow Lankford to win. This is moronic on his part”

That was my fear too, like what happened in Tennesee, giving us Bob Corker.

Ugh, hopefully there’ll be disgust and people will just vote for Shannon

I am a big fan of both Lankford and Shannon. I have a very difficult time understanding on what planet Lankford could be considered a moderate. Oklahoma needs both Shannon and Lankford active and successful.

Brodgon, on the other hand is not Ted Cruz, regardless of what many would like to think because of his rhetoric. From my perspective he is one interview away from becoming the next Todd Akin or Christine O’Donnell.

The one advantage of having Brogdon in the race is that he will make an easy target (from the left or the right). Hopefully Shannon and Lankford will aim their big guns at Brogdon and maintain a civil relationship.

Brogdon wore out his 15 minutes back when he ran for governor the first time.

He said all the right things, but when he lost to Mary Fallin he refused to endorse her in the general election, and in pretty much showed everyone his ass as a sore loser.

I wouldn't vote for him for any elected office.

His true colors are those of a self-serving ass. He has some reason for jumping from one race to another, I wouldn't put it past him to be acting from the lowest of motives - the joy of fewking something up for someone else.

I don’t know what Brogdon is thinking but he appears erratic and unstable jumping from race to race. I have no faith in him.

Freepers should go to TW Shannon’s website and get a free bumpersticker. Shannon is going to be great in the Senate.

We will stick with Fallin for Gov. for now, hopefully we will get a true Tea Party believer as Gov. next time.

OK has a run-off, so Lankford can’t win unless he gets a majority.

Is Gov. Mary Fallin a RINO?

I think Bridenstine should serve 2 terms until 2016 and primary the winner in 2016. The winner doesn’t get 6 years.

If Bridenstine loses narrowly in 2014 he is a 1 term congressman.
