Sarah Palin Owns Giant Future-Predicting Telescope? (She's right, again, so here's push-back)

Many Americans still remember the joke made by Tina Fey in a return to SNL to play the role of Sarah Palin back in 2008.

While introducing herself, Fey’s version of Palin stated in a folksy, matter-of-fact way that she could, “see Russia from [her] house.” As funny as it was at the time, this joke was actually borrowed from an interview with ABC News‘s Charlie Gibson:

Palin: …We have got to keep our eyes on Russia…And, Charlie, you’re in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They’re very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.

Gibson: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

Palin: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

Palin’s recent attempt to claim credit for having somehow predicted the troubles in Ukraine in 2008 seems to suggest that she spent a good portion of her time as governor on that Alaskan island, watching the Russians with a kind of giant telescope.

A giant, future-predicting telescope that enabled Palin and Palin alone to know exactly who was doing what in Russia and Ukraine, and to then predict with absolute perfection the exact outcome of ongoing tensions in the region. All of this despite having no access to high levels of intelligent information of American or Russian origin.

Mind-blowing.

All joking aside, it is possible that Palin may have been right about Russia pushing its weight around in order to maintain strategic military positions in countries that border it.

But then, that was never the criticism aimed at Palin back in 2008. The criticism is the idea that anyone who wants to know what Russia is planning can go to an island and stare across the water at Russian land. Proximity alone does not generate intelligence.

That would be like me going to the outskirts of Washington D.C, standing there for a few minutes and saying aloud, “You know something? I think that members of Congress are working on passing a bill of some kind. I don’t know what kind, but I know they’re there. And I know there’s some kind of legislative process happening.”

Also, let’s not forget the biggest holes in Palin’s “I told you so” argument:

- Palin had no way of knowing that hundreds of thousands of people would flood the Ukranian capital in protest of Viktor Yanukovych’s pro-Russian agenda.

- She had no way of knowing that protesters would continue their fight despite being exposed to freezing conditions and increasingly hostile Ukranian security forces.

- She did not know that despite the bloodiest confrontation in the nation’s history, the protesters would ultimately take the capital.

- She did not know that Yanukovych would successfully flee the country instead of being arrested or murdered.

In actuality, despite her smug claims, the only thing she’s really attempting to take credit for is something that is obvious to anyone who knows anything about Russia’s military behaviors in relation to land bordering their country in strategic locations. The sort of things that are…well….predictable.

Predictable in a way that does not require setting foot on an island in Alaska to draw such a conclusion. Predictable with or without the mystical future-predicting telescope.

So?

Churchill didn't have all of the details about WW2, but he sure as hell warned idiots what was coming. And surprise, we still have morons in the 21st century that dont listen when warned.

Sarah can see the future from her porch. And proved it.

But of course, we ALL saw this coming, that is, anyone with a brain. Obama is a punk. A weak sister. It was just a matter of time. And this is far from over. Our boy genius communist organizer has already done a great job of destroying our economy, weakening our defenses and setting us up for the bomb. Won’t be a bit surprised if he has total collapse of the USA in mind.

Guess he’ll continue trying to bitch-slap Putin. What an idiot.

They are quite sure that they’re smarter and better than everyone else, no question. Their arrogance is beyond belief. Don’t you think this applies to libs more than the low self-worth?

” All of this despite having no access to high levels of intelligent information of American or Russian origin.”

You are a total Ass Hat.

You do not need access to high level intelligence reports from any government to understand Russia or the Ukraine.

In fact, our intelligence reports are a compendium of that which you can read about from news organizations worldwide.

Very public sourcing.

There are intelligence secrets but, to be sure most of what one requires, to understand anything on earth, is published and has been through news that is inked or by bits and bytes and even blogged about.

Dr. Jack Wheeler has been reporting on the Ukraine for a number of years and even introduced us the Ice Queen, with her complete background.

We have been watching Ukraine now, for 6 or 7 years.

So pound sand yuh intellectual fraud and moral sieve.

I can tell you more about Ukraine In five minutes than you am pretend to know in 4 hours of contrived explanation.

Swamp Beast. What’s up with that look?

Sarah please stand forward.

We need you.

I am not opposed to Ted Cruz, but I do not support repealing everything about Obamacare, as he repeated last week.

I know Mr. Thompson and everyone on this site is in support of Mr. Cruz for that, but I think it is a big flaw. There are a lot of Americans who were not covered before, who won’t vote for Cruz for that matter. I won’t argue against it or Cruz for that, but I think he won’t win the election if he does, if he continues with that as a point of argument.

Modify Obamacare. Extensively in fact. But keep the default coverage.

There are a lot of Americans who are currently out of work. There are a lot of Americans, who are not covered by the armed forces coverage. Do not forget, all of those people do in fact vote.

It is you, Mrs. Palin. Now is the time. Get ready...

The sort of things that are…well….predictable.

Like what Russia would do if the U.S. President turned out to be a weakling? I believe that was Palin's point. And she was right. What should alarm the author more is how the pretender in the white hut, with access to the best intelligence and spy departments in the world, failed to predict the Russia's predictable move. The author is strangely silent in this. But then she's a farkin' racist anyway.

There is a coverage under Obamacare which covers things, if you lose a job, and won’t be covered for things related to what you had worked on before you lost your job.

That applies to me.

Prior to Obamacare, if I lost my job, I would lose coverage for things related to what I had done.

I may lose my job at some point, and do not want to lose coverage for things related, to that.

Obamacare covered that.

I am no longer in danger of losing that coverage, if I lose my job.

My employer has been laying off people for 10 years. Eventually I will lose my job.

Cruz wants our insurance coverage to go back to what it was. That is a HUGE mistake.

I am positive, I am not the only person in this situation. If you are not covered by the government and lose your job, if you’ve had work done, you need to think about this.

Just saying.

I am not arguing against Ted Cruz, in fact I find him absolutely thrilling.

But he’s making a (big) mistake in my mind, on healthcare, supporting a complete repeal.

I know this opinion is in a (huge) minority view on this website. In fact I won’t continue to discuss this, because of this.

Just saying. Cruz I do not support you on this (one) single matter.

Just this one matter.

A person such as this author honestly believes we can predict the climate within a hundredth of a degree a century from now. So it’s not surprising that she’d expect Palin to predict that hundreds of thousands of people would flood the Ukranian capital in protest of Viktor Yanukovych’s pro-Russian agenda; that protesters would continue their fight despite being exposed to freezing conditions and increasingly hostile Ukranian security forces; that the protesters would take the capital; and Yanukovych would flee the country instead of being arrested or murdered.

After all, Noboma predicted all of these things.

Russia stirring the pot and bearing keeping an eye on has been predictable for conservatives. Liberals have been in denial about Russia being an issue until about...5 minutes ago. Didn’t Obama accuse Romney of 1980s foreign policy when he tried to bring up Russia? I have had liberals laugh openly when anyone said anything about keeping an eye on Russia- most liberals didn’t think Russia was an issue even toward the end of the Cold War- before the Soviet Union broke up they were poo pooing any reference to issues with USSR and later Russia. Oh no that was all behind us they said.

The left intentionally misquoted Sarah and as Governor of Alaska I am sure she had been to the Island she was referring to.

there are two islands in the Bering Staight - Big Diomede and Little Diomede. The big island is Russian and the small one American. They are 1.5 miles from each other. Interestingly, the International Date Line separates the two, so there is a time difference of 23 hours between the two.

But, how do you make Sarah who was a member of the National Honor Society into a dumb hick from Alaska? By misquoting her.

We should push back when they call all our best stupid and than give us Biden, Obama, and Kerry

The fundamental problem with health insurance is that people don’t own their own insurance. Obamacare doesn’t fix that...it only changes the third party. Obamacare may continue to cover your issue if you become unemployed and have to change plans, but for many people it does not cover what they need. The repeal is a start...but you’re right in that it can’t be the end. There need to be rules regarding definitions of coverage, and transitions of coverage...but these are more “weights and measures” type of stuff.
