Congress pushes for Russia sanctions, Ukrainian aid
USA Today | March 1, 2014

Posted on 03/01/2014 5:25:56 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Led by Manchurian candidate and old warhorse himself Senator John McCain, of course. Calls for immediate actions against Russia (even though admitting Obama, not unlike himself, is incompetent, incapable, impotent and incontinent).

Lets see, aid factions that want to put Ukraine under the thumb of a Russian tribal post comkunist warlord, or factions that want to help Ukraine be devoured by the ravenous financially collapsing European socialist state.

this has been my struggle as well. My feeling is that we should, once again, bail out the Europeans. That said, I'm a little tired of supporting military actions in wars waged by democrats while they do their best to undermind the same thing when it's a GOP initiated action.

This confirms mccain is working with our enemies to bleed our treasury dry. One of the first objectives to tearing down a strong competitor is to bleed away resources and their treasury and weaken that competitor through economic collapse. The enemy is patient and our political people are helping the enemy to collapse the United States economically.

Members of Congress called for immediate sanctions against
Russia and an emergency aid package for Ukraine

"Why is it that every time the president and congress
decide to teach some foreigner a lesson I am the one
who gets screwed and end up payimg the bill?"

I imagine sanctioning Russia is pretty difficult because its economy is so large

Not as large as some might think. Its economy is smaller than Brazil's and about the size of Italy's.

In fact, if we were to exclude oil and gas exports, the Russian economy would probably compare to about Australia, perhaps a little bigger.

The problem is that much of Europe relies on Russian gas. Russia has them over a barrel, so to speak, and so it's hard to imagine the Europeans would actually impose sanctions.

My feeling is that European socialists funded Obama the same way the Chinese funded the Clintons. Nothing is going to stop the implosion of their welfare state after which they will be at war with the Islamists they got surgically attached to and which they will no longer be able to buy off.

Their answer as always will be another xenophobic purge of all unassimilated aliens.

There is nothing to be gained by helping Europe here.
Not for us.
Not for the Ukrainians.
Not even for Europe in the long run.

We’re broke as it is. Keep our money at home. Why help out a bunch of Nazi thugs and the descendants of Nazi lovers and Jew killers from WW II. Current Ukrainian regime are anti-Semites who played the West. Fudge the EU anyway.

>>Sanctions are possible and should be instituted. Mikheil Saakashvili in this morning’s WSJ says that the last time he was in Miami, there were crowds of Russian oligarchs there vacationing. He said, deny them visas and they’ll turn on Putin.<<

I guess they’ll probably invest elsewhere. Russian elites aren’t as cosmopolitan as one can think.

Sanctions are possible and should be instituted.

No they shouldn't. I'm tired of our economy being crippled by feelgood measures that are technically acts of war.

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm now for lifting sanctions against Cuba. And Iran. We're just hurting ourselves and victims of those regimes. And I wouldn't mind seeing $2 gas.

If you believe in freedom, the idea that the government can tell you who to trade with is nauseating.

These issues should have been properly addressed back in 1992-93.

I'm tired

Get some rest. Who said anything about government telling anyone who can trade or not?

This will be over in a week. I wouldn't be surprised if Steinmeier isn't on his way to Moscow right now.

Why can’t Germany do it?

Because the well-being of the Ukraine is the last thing in the world that Germany cares about.

I’m not a fan of sanctions either. Just another source of cronyism.

Our state department has given literally 10s of thousands of waivers to get around Iran sanctions over the years.

What’s the over/under on the number of Sunday shows McCain will be on? MEET THE PRESS, FACE THE NATION, FOX NEWS SUNDAY, THIS WEEK, and the CNN one I can’t remember. That’s a total of five:

My line -— 3.5

You taking the over or under?

(Conspicuous in his absence will be McCain’s little Smithers, who will be back in South Carolina pretending to be conservative for the next few months).

There are things we can do that won’t cost us a dime.

Freeze their assets, impose travel restrictions, expedite plans to get our natural gas to European markets...

Why is it so important to us to force the Ukraine to go all in with the EU when only half the country wants to go in that direction?

I’m trying to recall a thought process McCain ever had where he was right, made sense, and didn’t help the Democrats in any fashion.

I’m drawing a blank here.

So far he’s batting a thousand in support of George Soros.
