8 Steps Obama Must Take to Punish Russia
BI ^ | March 01, 2014 | Marco Rubio

Posted on 03/02/2014 4:16:14 AM PST by Zhang Fei

Russia’s illegal military incursion in the Crimea region in Ukraine is a grave violation of a nation’s sovereignty and cannot go unpunished.

First, President Obama should speak unequivocally and call this what it is: a military invasion. The Obama administration must publicly acknowledge that its “reset” with Russia is dead. The president must now accept that the only way to deal with tyrants like Vladimir Putin is with a clear understanding that they can’t be trusted and that only decisive action will deter their provocative moves.

Second, President Obama should dispatch Secretary of State John Kerry and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to Kiev to show U.S. support for Ukraine’s transitional government, and urge our allies in the European Union and NATO to send representatives there as well.

No fan of Rubio on immigration, but these are pretty good proposals. He's got good foreign policy people on staff.

Why bother? He must know Obama is incapable of doing anything other than worrying about how this will affect Ukrainian homosexuals and whether refugees are receiving free abortions.

Why in God's name do we have to punish Russia? We are the invaders also who the hell do we think we are. We have been cut down to size and made a laughing stock by Obama.

If Obama was smart, he should call Putin a racist. That would certainly humiliate Putin and stop this nonsense immediately. /sarc

Punish Russia? That sounds like a lot of work. Not sure our man is up to that level of effort.

Why would Obuma help? Ukrainians are white people.

First, of all, Marco -- haven't you gotten the memo? Relax. This wasn't an invasion, it was an uncontested arrival. They're not bad guys, maybe they just wanted to stage an unplanned tea party!

Ooops! Did I say 'Tea Party'? My bad...

Why should he? He promised to be more “flexible” after the election.

What’s that you say?
Why don’t those undocumented Russians need a pathway to become Ukranian citizens?

Waste of time —

On the outside Obama and his comrades are pretending to be upset but on the inside they support Putin and Russia in putting down this unauthorized uprising against dictatorships.

Why would the kenyan want to punish Russia? He told Putin that he would be more “flexible” after the 2012 election. Well, he is being “flexible.” Putin is probably acting according to a previously arranged agreement.

Putin has figured out that Obama is set on destroying his internal political enemies and has no regard for this country’s political enemies. If he was a “raised here” American, he might think differently. But he will not object to what Putin is doing. Doesn’t affect him. It does affect us in the long run, but that again, doesn’t bother him.

Interesting. I didn’t know about the hearings on approval of some new lefty Obama wuss in the State Dept to handle “arms reduction” talks with Russia.

Also, he’s right about restricting Russian travels and purchases in the US: there are wealthy Russians everywhere, busy buying up high-end properties not only in Miami but in NY and any place where there’s sufficient luxury for them. Limiting their ability to do this would certainly put a little internal pressure on Putin.

Another thing that could be done is to try to get the strangely silent Europe to wake up. But they are terrified, of course, that Russia is going to take over the gas lines that go through the Ukraine, and will then control what is the major natural gas source for Europe. So I think they are just holding their breath.

John Carry DID meet with Ben Affleck today. I’m sure some good ideas came out of that meeting.

Stay out of it.

We aren’t the world’s Texas Rangers.

Obama should not start something he doesn’t have the guts to finish.

This is the kind of confrontation that could lead to another World War.
