NATO warns Russia to cease and desist in Ukraine

NATO warns Russia to cease and desist in Ukraine

The chorus of international voices urging caution in Ukraine, and above all urging Russia to refrain from military action, have been reinforced by NATO’s secretary general.

“Russia must stop its military activities and its threats. We support Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. We support the rights of the people of Ukraine to determine their own future without outside interference and we emphasise the need for Ukraine to continue to uphold the democratic rights of all people and ensure that minority rights are protected,” said Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

An overnight phone call between Presidents Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin has reportedly only served to underline fundamental differences of position.

This was reflected as well in an emergency session of the UN Security Council, where Russia maintained it was acting to protect its citizens despite the lack of evidence of any tangible threat. And remember, Russia may be talking to its international partners, but refuses direct talks with Kyiv.

The Allies weren’t thrilled with the Warsaw Uprising, but they did it anyway.

Remember the movie “The Battle of Britain”...........”Repeat, Please?”

That’s the Poles for you.

I just finished commenting on another thread that when a great power acts like a passive, feckless idiot then lesser powers can act in such a way as to draw in the great power if they want to.

The Poles know from bitter historical experience that feeding the bear only leaves you as the last item in the buffet line.

Obama and the Rats are my enemy. I have more concerns for the future of this country under them than I do Putin.

“If you’re an American, it’s your problem. Putin is a mortal enemy of the entire country, and of the world.”

Time will tell, but like I said on another thread, the US has been like a phallus poking around all over the world the last 20 years or so and this is just another country showing they can do the same. They have their interests and we have ours. I don’t think this is the start of WW3 yet. It is what we get for backing a Ukrainian spring.

I don’t think there is going to be any significant US involvement, which may be good for everyone. American national interest is in respect for the treaties US signed, such as the Budapest Memorandum (not really a treaty anyway) and in shoring up NATO deterrent in the Balt states. It is primarily an European crisis.

>>Unfortunately the sanctions have a way of hurting the man on the street the most, especially now that Russia imports everyday goods.

LOL. Have you seen any `Made in USA` things lately? And I don’t think China would join any sanctions.

Poland wants to keep the Western Ukrainian Bandera Nazis out of Przemysl. They’ve laid claim to that area of Poland, too.

The Polish Foreign Ministry said earlier today they stand ready to accept any and all refugees from Ukraine.

It is our problem insofar as we are guarantors of the territorial integrity of post-Cold War Ukraine. A philosophical dislike for Putin is not a point of national interest for us.

It would have been in our national interest not to elect nothings like Obama in the first place; with American prestige where it would have been otherwise, none of this saber rattling would be happening. But where we are now, no, we don’t need another foreign war.

So we can live without allies? And with Russia dominating Europe (including access to all its technology) as well as China in the Far East? Without oil from the Middle East if China/Iran/Russia so order it?

Go back to watching American Idol, please.

The problem though is that Russia is not an “ordinary” country. The old structures they built under the soviet union are alive and well, and none of those criminals were ever brought to justice or condemned. Russia is still very much the corrupt and dangerous state it once was, and there is no evidence that the Russians have abandoned their long-term plans of uniting the east and west under “communist terms.” (On the contrary, their plans are going very well, considering the United States and its allies are disarming themselves.)Albeit, Putin is now pushing weirdos like Alexander Dugin and other freaks, who literally want to return to the dark ages in creating a “Eurasian empire,” complete with Eugenics, right after the fall of the Untied States, of course. Not quite the same as communism, but the end result is still the same old same old mass murder.

I don’t believe the Senate ratified the Budapest Memorandum.

Just another “Feel Good” meaningless gesture from the Clinton Administration, that wound up guaranteeing that this day would eventually come.
