Ukraine mobilises its forces for war
Irish Examiner ^ | 03/01/2014 | By Natalia Zinets and Alissa de Carbonnel Kiev/Balaclava

Ukraine mobilised for war yesterday after Russian president Vladimir Putin declared he had the right to invade, creating the biggest confrontation between Moscow and the West since the Cold War.

“This is not a threat: this is actually the declaration of war to my country,” said Ukraine’s prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, head of a pro-Western government that took power when Russian ally Viktor Yanukovych fled last week.

Putin obtained permission from his parliament on Saturday to use military force to protect Russian citizens in Ukraine.

Russian forces have already seized Crimea — an isolated Black Sea peninsula where Moscow has a naval base. Yesterday they surrounded several small Ukrainian military outposts there and demanded the Ukrainian troops disarm. Some refused, although no shots were fired.

Russia has staged war games with 150,000 troops along the land border, but so far they have not crossed.

Ukraine’s security council ordered the general staff to immediately put all armed forces on highest alert, the council’s secretary Andriy Parubiy announced.

The Defence Ministry was ordered to conduct a call-up of reserves — theoretically all men up to 40 in a country with universal male conscription, though Ukraine would struggle to find extra guns or uniforms for significant numbers of them.

Nobody has the *right* to invade.

Invasion by its very definition, precludes being a *right*

God I wish this man was president instead of the boy clown we have. Uncle Vlad wouldn’t dare go around violating the sovereignty of other countries if Bolton was in charge.

That this is turning into a cold war style showdown. If way had serious leadership this wouldn’t be happening. It didn’t need to be this way.

Watch this. This will be like a fat kid in a knife fight. What a bloody mess this will be for 48 hours and then the Russians take all of Ukraine back. They won’t put up with these terrorist rebels 5 minutes.

If Western Ukraine is threatened, whether NATO wants it or not, the Poles will step in.

Depends on where the last of their nukes are.

Besides the ones that were being "protected" in Benghazi, of course.

Yes, much bigger army, and lots of people willing to fight to the death, as we saw in the protests (even old ladies walking up and taking the peltings). The only problem is their arms, which aren't exactly up to par. You might see an Afghanistan situation develop if they are to win, assuming that they themselves have the will to make it reach that point (which I think they do). Either God steps in with a miracle and makes this short and sweet, or God steps in by bringing them military aid, or we're in for blood.

How does this happen? Just goes to show all the international organizations, all the flag lines, all the expensive buildings and get-togethers, mean absolutely nothing. The UN has changed nothing. We should stop wasting money on it.

They'll have to fight the Poles for it....They still consider Western Ukraine historically linked to Poland even if they don't desire to annex it.

“Nobody has the *right* to invade.”

Did you say the same thing when America invaded Ganade, Afghanistan, Irak or Kosovo?
Was it right to invade?

If Ukraine wants to get the Russians out of Crimea, they're going to be fighting against both Russia AND Crimea.

“It’s Over, Ukraine...Crimea is gone”

Russian migration authorities report a huge spike in requests coming from Ukrainians to seek asylum in Russia, as some 143,000 people filed documents in just two weeks. Officials vow to process the requests in shortest possible time.

“Tragic events in Ukraine have caused a sharp spike in requests coming from this country seeking asylum in Russia,” said chief of citizenship desk Valentina Kazakova. “We monitor figures daily and they are far from comforting. Over the last two weeks of February, some 143,000 people applied.”

Kazakova said most requests come from the bordering areas and especially from Ukraine’s south.

If the pro-EU thugs who forced their way into power in Kiev have any brains, they’ll let Crimea have the independence it wants, and just move on to their utopia in the EU.

There’s a difference between it being right to invade and feeling like you have THE right to invade.

Nobody has THE right to invade. It is not a privilege or a right that can be afforded to one.
