Venezuelan opposition keeps protests despite carnival season (Latest from Venezuela)

More than 1,000 opposition demonstrators in Venezuela have marched through the streets of Caracas in new protests against the government.

At the end of the march, activists clashed with police in the wealthy neighbourhoods of Callao and Altamira.

President Nicolas Maduro extended the traditional carnival holidays until the end of this week and asked Venezuelans to rest and celebrate peace.

At least 17 people have been killed in more than three weeks of unrest.

Opposition leaders have asked people to ignore the carnival season, when many Venezuelans traditionally go to the seaside.

They are demanding the release of dozens of demonstrators and activists arrested since last month, including high-profile politician Leopoldo Lopez....

Maduro's murdering his own people! We need to get the world to force him to step aside and let Democracy bloom!

Oh wait... I think Obama will pass on this one.

This has to be a misprint. There can be no wealthy neighborhoods in Venezuela. They have had socialism for at least twenty years. This article needs to be corrected.

The international media I have always suspected have a large share of Maduro sympathizers in them.

I always thought that was the case in the 1980’s when I listened to and read reports from Nicaragua under the Sandinistas.

They are hung up on Marxist theory.
