President Obama’s foreign policy is based on fantasy (Washington Post Editorial...)

President Obama’s foreign policy is based on fantasy By Editorial Board, Published: March 2

FOR FIVE YEARS, President Obama has led a foreign policy based more on how he thinks the world should operate than on reality. It was a world in which “the tide of war is receding” and the United States could, without much risk, radically reduce the size of its armed forces. Other leaders, in this vision, would behave rationally and in the interest of their people and the world. Invasions, brute force, great-power games and shifting alliances — these were things of the past. Secretary of State John F. Kerry displayed this mindset on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday when he said, of Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine, “It’s a 19th century act in the 21st century.”

That’s a nice thought, and we all know what he means. A country’s standing is no longer measured in throw-weight or battalions. The world is too interconnected to break into blocs. A small country that plugs into cyberspace can deliver more prosperity to its people (think Singapore or Estonia) than a giant with natural resources and standing armies.

Unfortunately, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not received the memo on 21st-century behavior. Neither has China’s president, Xi Jinping, who is engaging in gunboat diplomacy against Japan and the weaker nations of Southeast Asia. Syrian president Bashar al-Assad is waging a very 20th-century war against his own people, sending helicopters to drop exploding barrels full of screws, nails and other shrapnel onto apartment buildings where families cower in basements. These men will not be deterred by the disapproval of their peers, the weight of world opinion or even disinvestment by Silicon Valley companies. They are concerned primarily with maintaining their holds on power.

Obama set out to reduce the power of the US, and he has achieved it.

And I don’t mean only militarily. He has no support from our (former) allies and no respect from our enemies because he is clearly a shallow, self-obsessed politician who thinks that a phone call from him counts as “diplomacy.” He doesn’t understand this thing about getting allies to go along, supporting allies, being supported by them, having a realistic common goal, etc. He does “diplomacy” just the way he handles the rest of the government, thinking he can do it all by himself with a word or two. What a stupid, stupid man.

This is significant because it comes from the editorial board, rather than a token conservative columnist.

I wouldn’t bet on it. These are likeminded people - America bashers; Christian haters. Even propagandists have to ‘try’ to make it look good lest they be criticized for biased reporting.

This is not an op-ed column, but an editorial signed by the editorial board. Since it is purported to be from the WASHINGTON POST, I have to look at it with jaundiced eye. There may be something to be read between the lines or maybe a hidden message, encrypted for liberals or it may even be a counterfeit Washington Post editorial page.
But I am having a hard time accepting this at face value.

All his Advisors/Handlers live in the same ideological fog.
Putin and Xi Jinping are professionals while 0bama after 5 years in office still acts like an amateur on the world stage.
He has not grown or learned anything.

I expect in the daily press closed door briefings(Mafioso style sit downs) the heads of the big media outlets including FauxNews have been instructed a cpl more days of Ukraine coverage and then back to Robin Thicke’s divorce, new capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S5, viral crowdfunding for urban startups and other equally useless news. Lets not waste any time here getting in a lather about Ukraine, its gone, nothing we can do and really nothing we should do. Ukrainians helped the Nazi death squads exterminate their own people including about a over 300,000 Jews. My heart does not bleed for those people, screw them. Still commie bastards regardless if they fly a new flag, let them slug it out with their mongoloid kin next door. A heard a joke that Ukraine’s biggest export is almond eyed strippers and porn stars...I’d believe it.

Its real and probably driven by liberal fear — not concern for the country. Its just a matter of the WP fearing that Obama’s monumental incompetence and naivete is close to bringing down their party, perhaps for a long time to come. This is purely a damage control attempt on their part. But the horse is already out of the barn. Our foreign problems are just beginning; the worst is yet to come.

Elections have consequences.

I don't know about that. Hillary's re-set button with Russia didn't work out so well. Come to think of it, democRats will be hard pressed to name even one accomplishment she had as senator or SOS. She pretty much rode Bill's coattails to the senate and SOS was her consolation prize for losing the '08 election.

whaterve it might be, both are obnoxious, unhealthy, dangerous and destructive frames of mind.
