Russian Forces in Crimea

Crimea is a pro-Russian area of Ukraine that is a vital base for the Russian Navy. On Saturday, Russian troops swarmed the major thoroughfares of Crimea, encircled government buildings, closed the main airport and seized communication hubs. A senior Obama administration official said Sunday that Russian troops have complete operational control of the peninsula, and that the Russians were flying in additional reinforcements.

The Ukraine is a sovereign nation recognized by Russia as a Sovereign Nation and as such a member of the United Nations and recognized by such as a sovereign nation.

All the rhetoric aside from Russia it must be recognized that Russia has declared war against a sovereign nation. Any action by the United States must be in response to this act of war. To counter this act of war with military force would be insane. Logistically we could not prevail due to our present weakened position militarily. A nuclear strategic response is conceivable and is a winning position if we are ready to destroy Russia and in consequence have Russia destroy us. Neither side wants this. Therefore we must accept on the temporary basis Russia will prevail

We can win this war in the long run the same way President Ronald Reagan destroyed the Soviet Union years ago. We must rebuild our military as Reagan did. We must develop our oil reserves and natural gas reserves and insist our allies in Europe do the same.

Europe is dependent on Russia for energy and they exact a high price for this. The Russian economy is virtually dependent on the revenues of oil and gas.

1. Develop our Energy Resources;
2. Insist Europe develop all their resources.
3. Lean hard on Saudi and the rest of the Middle East to produce oil and gas at the maximum rate possible.
4. If the Saudis will not do our asking, tell them to “get F—ked when Iran attacks them.”

When we have driven the price of oil down to 70 dollars or less Russia will collapse just as the Soviet Union did for the same reason.

All wars end in victory for one side or the other, but the best war is won when you do not need to fire one bullet.

Here's a significant map. Observe that the western portion of what is now Ukraine was inside Poland until 1939. It was occupied until 1941 by Soviet forces who slaughtered Polish and Ukrainian elites. It was then overrun by Nazi Germany, with the Soviets returning in 1945 and incorporating the territory into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
