Surprises, Runoffs Likely in Texas Primary (Today!!!)

Gov. Rick Perry isn't on the ballot, but a new member of the Bush dynasty is. Wendy Davis can clinch a feat no woman has achieved in Texas since Ann Richards. Heavyweight Republicans are trying to survive, and a new voter ID law gets a major test.

Throw in a March blast of winter weather that could dampen turnout, and Texas' primary elections Tuesday figure to be anything but ordinary.

The results will begin the biggest reshuffling of state power in a decade. Although most of the competitive primary races are on the Republican side, Davis' bid for governor headlines a roster of underdog Democrats girding instead for the Nov. 4.

That's the only day that matters to Davis and Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott in the year's marquee showdown. Neither has a competitive primary, leaving Davis poised to become the first female gubernatorial nominee in Texas since Richards in 1994, and Abbott the first new GOP nominee after 14 years of Perry.

But a frigid forecast could leave voters with a dangerous -- or at least dreary -- drive to the polls. Meteorologist say freezing rain overnight Tuesday could sock Central Texas, the Houston area should be wary of elevated roads and a biting cold will be felt most everywhere.

"It doesn't take much when you're not used to winter weather," National Weather Service meteorologist Dennis Cavanaugh said.

Unlike Davis and Abbott, few other Texas candidates have the luxury of uneventful primaries.

The conservative star power of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has GOP candidates -- from local races to statewide offices -- jostling farther right and wooing voters with vows to emulate Cruz's no-compromise style.

I would crawl across a field of broken glass to vote against John Wayne McCornyn! I want that Back-Stabbing POS out of the Senate!

I will be voting for DWAYNE STOVALL, proudly!

Central Texas is iced in, and in Travis Co., the reddest part of TX, polls won’t open until 11:00 AM.

LOL...my brain is obviously frozen. Travis Co. is the BLUEST part of TX. (Sorry but I still associate red with Communism and this color switch should never have been foisted on us by the Leftist media.)

The Dallas area weather is terrible this morning. That's where Pete Session's District is located? I hope a whole helluva lot of Dwayne Stovall's supporters and Katrina Pierson's supporters voted early and I hope all of John Cornyn's and Pete Session's supporters stay home today. Well, actually..... Some people in the Dallas area won't be able to vote no matter how badly they want; many roads are closed. Sun. night, I-45 just south of Dallas had travelers stranded for 16 hours.

GO STOVALL!!! GO PIERSON!!!

I know. I was just kidding. It’s actually very dangerous and scary when you run across a thin, invisible sheen of ice on a road.

I told my wife this morning: If people don’t get to vote today because of the weather, there is nothing they can do about it because the State of Texas had two weeks of Early Voting. If at all possible, Texas FReepers, get out there today and vote..... GO STOVALL!!!

And we sure don’t know how to drive on it. But, under ordinary circumstances, here in Southeast Texas, it is not unusual for us to run the a/c in the house and the car in January. Eat your heart out Cotton...... LOL

I took your ribbing good-naturedly...because I know you Yankees would melt in our Texas summers:). And our miserable summers are as long as your winters, with cooling costs more expensive than heating costs. However, it’s necessary for survival. (How did our grandparents live without AC???)

They were a hardy bunch!! I spent a lot of time in the South in the Army, including three weeks in Louisiana in August, not to mention vising Israel in September a couple years ago (but that was for a vacation). I thoroughly missed the cool ocean breezes of New England and couldn’t take that heat for a long period (unless I had to).
