Let The Midterms Begin: Texas Holds First Primary Of 2014 Election

Texas is holding the nation's first primary election Tuesday with a political free-for-all in Republican races that could push the state further right, though Democrats are calling it the next big battleground on the electoral map.

Republican Gov. Rick Perry has decided this would be his last of a record 14 years in office, and his looming exit has set off a scramble resulting in the most open races in Texas in more than a decade.

Tea party conservatives claimed important gains in the last two elections in Texas, most notably Ted Cruz's defeat of Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in their U.S. Senate race in 2012. More than a dozen tea party politicians are using Cruz's underdog tactics in races up and down the ballot hoping to oust more established Republican officeholders, chief among them Dewhurst and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn. For more evidence of the tea party's post-Cruz power, watch the Texas attorney general's race and the battle between U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions and Katrina Pierson in the 32nd Congressional District.

Republicans are favored to win them all come November — including Perry's seat, despite Democrat Wendy Davis building a national profile and an early $16 million fundraising haul to match. She has energized Texas Democrats, who haven't won a statewide race in 20 years but insist the tide is turning.

But that possibility, and the rising influence of tea party firebrand U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, has Texas Republicans flanking farther right this primary season. Some blasted an "invasion" of immigrants coming across the border, doubled down on the state's gay marriage ban that was recently ruled unconstitutional, and pledged to further tighten abortion laws that already rank among the strictest in the nation.

So begins the long march to November! Hopefully, collectively we'll leave a slew of backstabbing RINO's in our wake on the way (Cornyn, McConnell, Graham, Cochran, Alexander, Mike Simpson, Pete Sessions, etc.), and then go on to remove as many democrats from power as possible on November 4th!

The way that I see things, voting the Back-Stabbers out, is just another way of voting to put the brakes on the Obama Regime and their Anti-America Agenda. The Back-Stabbers have proven themselves to be enablers for the Crap Sandwich Factory that reside in our White House. This has to stop!

Sen. Obama Formally Announces Plans for White House Bid

SPRINGFIELD, Ill – Barack Obama announced his bid for president Saturday, a black man evoking Abraham Lincoln's ability to unite a nation and a Democrat portraying himself as a fresh face capable of leading a new generation.

"Let us transform this nation," he told thousands shivering in the cold at the campaign's kickoff.

Two overarching hopes for today:

1. Cornyn forced to runoff

On my way to the poll shortly. Here in Nueces County (Corpus Christi), the ballot is quite long with numerous judgeships in contention as well. Have my cheat sheet folded and ready to go.

Yes, this should be the live thread since cotton has been so diligent and dogged in keeping us up on the primaries.

Polls aren’t opening in Travis Co. until 11am due to the winter weather advisory. Guess that means people voting on their lunch break will face heavy crowds, and people putting it off til after work, too.

Bexar, Dallas, Harris and Tarrant counties opened on time. Article didn’t state if they’d extend Travis’ close time.

There are also propositions on the ballot.
One is to repeal the business franchise tax.
