Skip to comments.Study: Rates of many mental disorders much higher in soldiers than in civilians

Ronald Kessler, a professor at Harvard Medical School and senior author of one of the studies was quoted in a Harvard press release saying, "The rate of major depression is five times as high among soldiers as civilians, intermittent explosive disorder six times as high, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) nearly 15 times as high."
Kessler's study also found almost 25% of active-duty, non-deployed Army soldiers surveyed tested positive for a mental disorder of some kind, and 11% within that subgroup also tested positive for more than one illness.
Much of the data used in the reports was taken from the Army's STARRS (Study to Assess Risk and Resilience in Servicemembers) survey of almost 5,500 soldiers. The project was collaboration between the U.S. Army and the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health. The survey looked at disorders that included clinical depression, bipolar disorder, panic disorder and PTSD. Authors also noted that alcohol and drug use were common.

How do you test positive? Is there a blood test?
Won’t work. When the SHTF,vets neighbors will be pushing guns into their hands.
How wacked-out are they?
Or do we care?
Oh, the wimps at CNN will be the first ones to grovel if we ever need the military here, but we won’t. Putin will stop at Ukraine
This is bull$%^&.
We currently test, or examine, a minority of civilians.
They are comparing a flawed sample to a controlled group. Classic Harvard - poor methodology, poor results - study.
Science is dead.
‘Part of the effort to disarm returning servicemen?’, yes it is. What I would like see is a study that determines the mental stability of Congress critters. I know the majority of them are total wackjobs.
“Part of effort to disarm returning servicemen?”
Or simply recognition that there is a higher failure rate on materials that have been stressed, to make an engineering comparison.
To say that another way, the rates are probably the same in the civilian population, but have never been pushed to the edge, the existing issue never is apparent.
Probably most are druggies from the inner city. Not a real threat, will have to expend some ammo putting them down though.
Control A = test
Control B = test
at Harvard Medical School = OUT OF CONTROL
In other news, Hawaiians found to eat more pineapple than people in Minnesota.
Smear campaign. Liberals detest the military but it is no longer fashionable to say so openly. So, they have to resort to biased studies to turn the people against vets who have honorably served our country.
The percentage of mental disorders among liberals is still 4 times greater.
A big time Obamacare supporter.
No need to read further.
Forcing them to take a government test is mental cruelty.
Who funded this thing and got the answer they paid for is really all that is important.
The homos are joining en masse. Seems the mentally diseased sex perverts are being recruited in order to have access to young males and all the free strip shows in the shower.
Don’t think many “civilian” peeps have seen their buddy’s brains blow onto their own face either... What would you expect the outcome to be :/
My Gosh... their studies are as polarized as their bias.. To make it worse.. anyone that has never been in the military will never be in the same universe as someone that has fought and given their life to protect these same ignorant individual’s freedoms...
We SERIOUSLY need to separate ‘Us from THEM’... they will understand quickly, but it will be too late for them.
(The ignants I was referring to do NOT include the civvies that DO understand).
Just wait until they are able to identify the Geriatric Profanity Disorder in vets. It’s a widespread, non-reported illness/S;-)
As a good conservative leaning American in the military that realized they are under the command of a queer loving muslim bent on gutting our country why would I not eventually go a little nuts.
two words: Corporal Klinger!
