Ronald Kessler, a professor at Harvard Medical School and senior author of one of the studies was quoted in a Harvard press release saying, "The rate of major depression is five times as high among soldiers as civilians, intermittent explosive disorder six times as high, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) nearly 15 times as high."
Kessler's study also found almost 25% of active-duty, non-deployed Army soldiers surveyed tested positive for a mental disorder of some kind, and 11% within that subgroup also tested positive for more than one illness.
Much of the data used in the reports was taken from the Army's STARRS (Study to Assess Risk and Resilience in Servicemembers) survey of almost 5,500 soldiers. The project was collaboration between the U.S. Army and the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health. The survey looked at disorders that included clinical depression, bipolar disorder, panic disorder and PTSD. Authors also noted that alcohol and drug use were common.

They are comparing a flawed sample to a controlled group. Classic Harvard - poor methodology, poor results - study.

‘Part of the effort to disarm returning servicemen?’, yes it is. What I would like see is a study that determines the mental stability of Congress critters. I know the majority of them are total wackjobs.

Or simply recognition that there is a higher failure rate on materials that have been stressed, to make an engineering comparison.
To say that another way, the rates are probably the same in the civilian population, but have never been pushed to the edge, the existing issue never is apparent.

The percentage of mental disorders among liberals is still 4 times greater.

My Gosh... their studies are as polarized as their bias.. To make it worse.. anyone that has never been in the military will never be in the same universe as someone that has fought and given their life to protect these same ignorant individual’s freedoms...
We SERIOUSLY need to separate ‘Us from THEM’... they will understand quickly, but it will be too late for them.
