In 2013, we had Leonardo DiCaprio snorting cocaine off well, if you saw The Wolf of Wall Street (a totally missable movie, regardless of what the vaunted Academy says), you know where. Cate Blanchett chomped Xanax like they were Tic Tacs, Matthew McConaughey did his yeomans share of coke, and American Hustle taught us all that drugged-out crime really does pay.
But 2014 looks different. A lot different. Perhaps its five years of President Obama. The economy is worse, not better. All those 20-somethings whom millions of Americans have been putting through college the past half-decade are moving back home. Obamacare is turning into Obamascare no one feels safe, secure anymore. Not much hope for hope and change.
So, right on cue, the movies are changing. The excess of the 1980s? Neurotic New Yorkers? Not so much. God is making a comeback, and so are the Bible, faith, religion.
First came Son of God, which opened late last month. The makers of the History Channels hit 2013 miniseries The Bible, which averaged 11 million viewers an episode and was Americas most watched cable show last year, turned the series into a surefire Hollywood hit. (I caught the movie on opening day: At 1 p.m. on a Friday, some 200 people turned out. Some wiped away tears in the final Crucifixion scenes.)
Later this month comes Gods Not Dead.

Thomas Keating, an associate theater professor at Charleston Southern University, told The Post and Courier that Tinseltown is coming around. Hollywood realizes that there is a market for these Christian films where they might have been reluctant in the past, he said. Now they are willing to make an investment.
And so are Americans. Looks like 2014 is going to be the year of God. And maybe thats about time.

The cynic in me agrees with this statement, but only to the extent that there is money to be made off of God.
Sorry, I don’t consider Noah to be a biblical movie.
Hollywood does not know who God is
Most of Hollywood will never except God. If they can make a buck making a religious movie they will but most of the community is pure hard core far left liberals and there is no redemption. So don’t get your hopes up for this communists bunch of fools.
Or you could fashion a calf out of gold.
I don’t trust hollyweird to only make God movies if there is a buck in it. I suspect there is more to it...
If they see the country moving towards God, they will spout agenda-driven movies to steer the populace towards a gay God, or transgendered God, and so on... always wanting to put in their .02c for what they think is the greater good.
Could I ask why?
If the news/entertainment industries decide the trend is back toward embracing faith versus ridicule, which has been the case for a decade, look for busloads full of Democrat pols heading to churches with that lying punk Obummer driving one of the buses.
Hollywierd is simply looking at they’re falling box office reciepts and forced to look back at what sells and GENUINE attempts do work IF they are GENUINE in the message.
Theier two latest attempts Son of God and Noah will likely fail as they are not genuine in that they send no or the wrong message. Son of God about Jesus sends no message of salvation, and Noah is global warming propaganda. A single mention by one academy award winner thanking God for his golden idol hardly means Hollyweird’s gone religious.
God will pour his blessings in the form of box office returns if the message is true.
In that movie, God sends the floods because men are polluters, not sinners. And Noah is spared because he is the first environmentalist.
Seriously. I guess I missed that part in my Bible.
Did you see it?
one must ask exactly WHICH god is that?
