Posted on 03/04/2014 8:04:09 PM PST by MinorityRepublican
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) George P. Bush took the first step toward continuing his family's political dynasty Tuesday, shaking off an under-funded primary challenger and securing the Republican nomination for the little-known but powerful post of Texas land commissioner.
The 37-year-old Fort Worth attorney is the grandson of former President George H.W. Bush, nephew of former President and Texas Gov. George W. Bush, and son of ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who is frequently mentioned as a possible GOP White House hopeful in 2016.
He's also a Spanish speaker whose mother Columba was born in Mexico and who Republican leaders statewide long have toasted as key to wooing voters among Texas' booming Hispanic population.
"We don't have to change our conservative principles to win, we just need to change our tactics," said Bush, who spoke English and Spanish to the crowd at his victory party at a Fort Worth Mexican restaurant. His mother was among the attendees.
He noted that his campaign traveled to numerous heavily Hispanic areas, including making several trips to the Texas-Mexico border.
The result in the race was never in doubt. There was no incumbent running and Bush used his American political-royalty surname to raise more than $3.5 million while his opponent, East Texas businessman David Watts, could barely afford to travel the state.
Bush immediately becomes the overwhelming favorite in November against Democratic nominee and former El Paso Mayor John Cook.

This is probably the worst part.
If Jerry stayed we wouldn’t have to put up with Jeb Bush Jr.
I, personally, voted against him. I will not vote for a Bush family member, just because his name is Bush.
Apparently, I am a minority in this state.
200 plus years and then a return to monarchy.
Apparently, I am a minority, too. Sad that name alone...and NO experience or history, can win an election.
“He’s also a Spanish speaker whose mother Columba was born in Mexico”
“He noted that his campaign traveled to numerous heavily Hispanic areas”
Now we have to deal with Jeb's idiot spawn?
“In 2010, he served an eight-month tour in Afghanistan with U.S. Naval Intelligence under an assumed name.”
Good for him, that’s a plus in my book.
I predicted almost 7 years ago, the Bush family dynasty would eventually run the Nephew. By the time another 5 or 10 million illegals enter, they’ll eventually elect him.
At the rate were going, with the wealthy corrupt insiders controlling government and everything else, America is all but lost.
I didn’t vote for him. Another Bush carpetbagger.
Jeb Jr, We are trying to win Ohio in 2016 not Mexican neighborhoods in Texas you idiot!
Appraising the land values that American land commissioners won’t appraise.
“Apparently, I am a minority in this state.”
Amateur. At least you are in Texas. I’m a rightwing conservative in L.A. surrounded by liberal imbeciles, in a blue city, ruled by an socialist moron governor in Jerry Brown.
I speak German and a little French. Who cares
What language does Ted Cruz speak? English, when he’s on the job working for us
I voted against him, of course I did
I'll stab the Tea Party in the back LIKE THIS
Bring back the Kennedies!
too bad. but i guess it’s no surprise given cornyn’s win.
Yep, I was irritated with Patterson for deciding he was going to move up in the world. I voted for Watts, and quite honestly, was shocked at how many voted for Bush.
Dewhurst challenged Cruz to a Spanish speaking debate. Cruz declined because he doesn’t speak it well.
This was also about Rick Perry and Dewhurst’s RINO legacy.
No, no Kennedies, Clintons are where it’s at.;-)
I guess one depression wasn’t enough...
I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion that, despite our best efforts, this nation has simply become too mind-numbingly stupid to survive much longer.
God bless Cruz
I wonder why Palin and Mark Levin sat this one out.
John C is one of sneakest K street crooks and amnesty trolls in DC.
He could have been taken out.
And I say that, sadly, as someone who really admires that 'whole 'nother country'.
I thought he was from Florida?
The only thing more despicable than expecting people to vote for you because of your family name is expecting people to vote for you because of your race. He was a twofer.
Apparently he’s going to be the next whatever, so we get a chance to see what he’s made of.. I am a bit put-off by this name association problem..
None of us picked our parents, or our names, so I tend to give the person a bit of latitude before I draw my own conclusions based on their merits..
I’ve read his profile, as I am sure you have, and I find it commendable and pretty straight forward, and he did win the primary, so why not wait and see? Jus sayin..
It seems this posts exists to provide a cushy taxpayer funded job and a stepping stone for higher political office. Someone should start a petition drive to amend the Texas state constitution and abolish the office in the November election. My state doesn't have a "land commissioner" (elected OR appointed), and gets along fine without one. Land management and mine & mineral rights are handled by the Department of Natural Resources.
I read once about some guy who was "elected" to an office that voters abolished on the very same ballot. Nice irony there. If you can't get rid of the Bushes, get rid of their positions of power.
I hope he loses in November!!
If Cornyn won against the endorsement of Cruz and others he would be even worse.
I think only Gohmert or Ron Paul could have beaten him in a runoff. Look at Vega and the Hispanic who ran against Abbott. Cornyn would have gained a few points.
But Gohmert, King and Lamar need to undermine Gowdy and Goodlatte on the judiciary.
Cornyn hasn’t actually gone for final cloture on amnesty since 2005. Schumer and McCain complained his amnesty lite plan was a poison pill.
It will be harder for him to push amnesty at this point in time. He’ll come up with some stupid idea in 2015 and if the stupid idea gets 218 House votes and 60 Senate votes I dont know if this primary alone will be the reason.
The Arizona House Republicans and most Texas Republicans are against amnesty. Even Farenthold doesn’t seem in that much of a rush.
shouldn’t we be putting well funded who can win elections into office and shouldn’t we be happy about it?.....the alternative of putting in weak candidates and having another leftist rat elected is not a good outcome....and lets face it...if you follow local politics, these rats stick together no matter what...
Ha! Poor sot. Do you recall the details?
The creeper is a disaster waiting to happen. His stalker activities with his ex girlfriend reveal a character that WILL result in disaster.
I hope he loses in November!!
If he loses then we will lose the Governorship too because it will mean that Democrats voted in high numbers. Losing Bush for a Wendy is not worthwhile.
He's running as a hispanic. He's not running as an American. P.. is pandering con man like his father and uncle.
You, of course, have every right to vote for whomever you wish, for whatever reason. It seems to me, though, that it's far better to vote based on policy, rather than name.
I agree. Let’s wait and see. The man is better than the name.
Using the logic on this thread, I guess we all should vote for Ronnie Ballerina Reagan.
So will there be a coronation, followed by a reception where Texans, one-by-one, can line up and pledge their fealty to the future king?
“Apparently, I am a minority in this state.”
Most people are low information voters, even most Republicans.
I can’t believe they’d vote for another Bush...
That is down right sickening...
Of course, it just goes to show you, money can buy just about anything in politics...
Tens of millions of illegals will eventually vote the Bush dynasty nephew into the oval office.
Bet the rent.
P. is a shill for the illegal mafia.
Really? I assume you have some proof that you acquired that backs up that type of slanderous statement and accusation..
I guess you expect me to afford you something you refuse to give to Mr. Bush, any proof of guilt..
But, I'll bite, so I'll give you the benefit of a doubt, but what I take a major exception to your placing me, or anyone else in a position of appearing to support this man, merely because we are defending this gentleman against prejudgement, purely because of his name, or that he speaks a second language, or that his mother is a Latina, or that you are just provocative for reasons that we, or I have yet to uncover..
I'll withhold my judgement of this, or any other person until I can gather additional facts to the contrary..
Thanks for wasting my time, I'm getting old, and I should spend it more seriously.. :)
Did you read the Blog that you provided? It says he is “Concerned about the stance..”! That’s it? He wants to go back to his uncles discussions about immigration, OK, it doesn’t say anything close to what you claim.. What does he propose, himself?
I am “concerned” too, aren’t you, isn’t that where most of us are on this issue? I would never take any position that gives any citizenship to illegals, I haven’t heard his positions, have you?
Do I think we as a party, if you are indeed a Republican, have any problem with guest worker programs, that track the workers to insure that they follow the existing rules that have been in place since President Reagan, do you?
Where does he stand? It’s not in your Blog..
I must have missed that he had a proven record of policy. If that’s the case, and he has been an elected official before, with a record. If not, then...no...he must prove his words before I’ll give him my vote.
that being said, now that he is the candidate for that position, I will support him over the D candidate.
