Kyle Bishop figured it was risky when he applied to a University of Arizona Ph.D. program in English eight years ago by proposing a dissertation on zombie movies.

He was dead wrong.
The program approved Mr. Bishop's proposal, and he is now chairman of Southern Utah University's English department. The 40-year-old has been invited to give zombie lectures in Hawaii, Canada and Spain.
"It's clearly now acceptable to study zombies seriously," he says.
Just as zombies—those mythical revived corpses hungry for living human flesh and gray matter—have infiltrated pop culture, they have also gotten their hands on our brainiest reserves: the academy.

This is the type of horse hockey that Student Loans are funding.
It is popular because we do have Zombies in this country. All over the world, for that matter.
We just don’t call them Zombies, yet.
They are the leeches in our society that persist in living off the blood, sweat and wealth the producers create.
We’ll eventually getting around to calling them full blown Zombies when our system finally realizes we cannot possibly sustain them in the manner to which they have become accustomed and their entitlements are significantly cut.
It is not entirely junk scholarship. The “zombie” is a metaphor for the illegals and government clients who are slowly sucking society dry. Just as the dumb zombies manage to take over despite the best efforts of “intelligent” human beings.
That is why the concept of a Zombie Apocalypse (ZA) has gotten so much traction in popular culture? People instinctively know we’re going to be faced with a situation where the bottom 50% rise up to riot and pillage after the $$ runs out.
When the EBT cards are finally turned off, the resulting effect will probably be very similar to a ZA. Of course, when you shoot the rioters, they will go down. But that will be the only difference. Zombie movies are society’s way of preparing for the inevitable collapse of the System. In short, we use fantasy to mentally prepare because the reality is too horrible to soberly contemplate.
And when you do have to shoot them in the ZA melee, it won’t even have to necessarily be a head shot.
Schools have been, “teaching” democrat propaganda for years.

I completely agree; if it is OK to train for a zombie attack, then that is what we’ll call our preparations. I wouldn’t mind living on a block full of zombie preppers when the food stamps are cut off. I just don’t like that so many of the “zombie weapons” for sale have ridiculous neon green and orange handles; not practical for the gibsmedat zombies...
Now you have Klingon, Star Trek and Star Wars, Britney Spears, zombies...
You mention Sociology. At GA Southern, one could get a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
At the University of Northern Colorado (where I had to take the 'Black Studies' class, now called 'Africana Studies'), one could only get a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice.
I decided to stick with my Bachelor of Music. Yes, a BM.
To get a PhD, one must perform original research. Unfortunately, this leaves people majoring in English (and other soft subjects) a problem: how does one conduct original research where there is nothing new to discover?
He might as well have done the dissertation on zombies in popular culture; it’s no better or worse than any other literary subject he could have selected.
Science is so much better. There is much we don’t know, giving PhD students a lot to discover.
And these classes should help them get good, well paying jobs that strengthen our economy.
It’s an interesting mental exercise!
I think zombies are a metaphor for our civilization. Mindless beings who live for consumption without any concern for others defines many inhabitants of the world.
When they aren’t consuming or don’t have the ability or means to consume, they vegetate in a somnolent state of non-sentience.
I’d enjoy the course.

The fastest way to kill this zombie b.s. is to create the Internet meme that “zombies represent black people in America”. Of course, any efforts to compare the two groups, while funny, would clearly be racist, so that shouldn’t be done.
But create the idea that “zombies” is just a code word for “black people”. Dressing up like a zombie is the modern equivalent of putting on black face makeup. And shooting zombies is comparable to lynching.
Many of the extras playing zombies on the Walking Dead seem to have a pretty stable, ongoing gig. They're pretty anonymous, but a paycheck is a paycheck.
That's assuming the zombies are still capable of feeling pain.
You see, another potential spark for the ZA is chemical/biological warfare.
Imagine legions of zombies who don't go down unless they bleed out or get shot in the head. Similar to the people who lost their minds on “bathsalts” and didn't feel several bullets/tazers from police.
They would eat each other, eat non-infected people and smash everything in their way until there is nothing left.
The vast majority are paid minimum wage, so, to your point, I guess it would be better than some other minimum wage jobs.
