Israeli Naval commandos on Wednesday intercepted an Iranian ship in the Red Sea weighed down with missiles that was en route to the Gaza Strip, the IDF said in a statement.
The boat, named KLOSC, was stopped by the elite naval commando unit Shayetet 13 as it was heading to Sudan, 1,500 miles from Israel.
Once on board the KLOSC Israeli soldiers found cement bags, behind which were hidden dozens of M-302 missiles which, the IDF said, were loaded onto the boat in Iran. Had the boat reached the Port of Sudan, its next stop would have been the Gaza Strip.
The M-302 missile is made in Syria and is based on Iranian technology, Israels Walla reported. M-302 missiles have a range of up to 200 kilometers and were used during the Second Lebanon War in 2006 to bomb several Israeli cities, including Haifa.
IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Benny Gantz, oversaw the operation and gave the order to Major General Ram Rothberg, head of the Israeli navy, to seize the KLOSC, the IDF said.
According to a senior Israeli military official, the commandos encountered no resistance from the crew of the KLOSC, Walla said.
The IDF said the success of the mission was due to the combination of in-depth intelligence and enhanced operational capabilities.
This shipment, meant to reach the hands of terrorist organizations in Gaza that are waging an ongoing armed conflict against Israel. These terrorist organizations systematically use such weaponry against the Israeli civilian population, the IDF added.
Iran was behind the shipment, said Brigadier General Moti Almoz, spokesman for the Israeli Navy, at a special press conference that was held on Wednesday, Maariv reported.
IDF Spokesman, Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, said, The IDF will continue to operate against the Iranian attempts to arm regional terrorist organizations, who intend to continuously ignite our borders. We will continue to employ all the necessary means in order to prevent the armament of terrorist organizations and will combat the Iranian smuggling attempts that threaten the security and sovereignty of the State of Israel.
The Navy is currently in the process of towing the KLOSC to Israels southern port in Eilat and it is estimated that the voyage to Israel will take several days, Walla said.
The KLOSC is the fourth ship destined for Gaza to be intercepted by Israeli forces in recent years.

In another story, probably related to this one, Code Pink whore Medea Benjamin was arrested in Egypt on her way to Gaza. Ostensibly, she was arrested for her support of the muslim brotherhood. This can’t be a coincidence.
And, in recent news, Zer0’s administration now claims that the US was assisting Israel all the time in this snatch.
Yeah, sure, kudo’s Zer0!
Wonder if Obama drew a line on this?
Peesacky has to be lying thru her teeth. The state dept. doesn’t have a history of yelling “mee too.” when stuff happens. And the state dept doesn’t have the hardware to have done stuff anyway. You suppose she has her own unit of sea-going Marines to run errands for her? throwing the BS flag on her spiel——theeerrrreeee it goooooes.
Haiku are easy,
But sometimes they make no sense,
What do you mean? She’s just a career activist. That’s how she makes her living no?
No, Medea is a fake name for a trust fund baby.
Seriously, what is WRONG with these people?
Don’t you think it is time to just flatten some Iranian ‘holy city” as a lesson? I do.
The weapons were made in Syria.
The capture was made in the Red Sea for a port in Sudan.
Why were the missles sent to Sudan and not Gaza as they passed by in the Med?
The interesting thing is when Hamas fires rockets into Israel, will the IDF fly these captured rockets into Gaza?
Sounds like the US was caught off-guard by the Israelis
Sink the boat and execute the crew as spies. Totally legitimate actions under international law.
“Ready to act” means “Obama was once again out of the office and unwilling to make the decision.”
Sure. Making a living as anything means one is being paid. The question originally raised is by whom? No further insights?
It is a shame no has has posted the story of Russia sinking the junk ship to block the Ukraian port. LA times came out with an article today on it.
