Let me summarize about the man who was nominated by the President of the United States for a prestigious judicial position.
He was born in New York State.
He is of mixed ancestry.
He attended a prestigious law school.
Hes married and has two children.
Hes been called one of the best litigators of his generation.
He represented a death row inmate convicted for murder.
He defended a very unpopular killer and made a lot of enemies for doing so many who swore they would ruin his career.
So when the vote came up to confirm him, senators from the Presidents opposition party made it clear that they were deeply troubled and going to block the nomination.
Now, be honest. You think Im talking about Debo Adegbile Obamas nominee to head the Civil Rights division of the Justice Department, right?
Well, every single word up there described him.
But I wasnt talking about Adegbile.
Sorry to break the news to our two Pennsylvania senators that voted against Adegbile, but I was talking about someone else - Supreme Court Justice John Roberts.
Thanks to a tip from my colleague, Philly.com writer Sam Wood, I learned that back when John Roberts was just an ordinary lawyer like Debo Adegbile, he represented Florida death row inmate John Ferguson, convicted in the murder of not one not two not three but, eight, yes, eight people.
Makes Adegbile's involvement look like chump change to me.
Roberts defended Ferguson pro bono when he was working in private practice.

Why is this relevant?
Plus, he’s about the leftmost crazy they could readily get their mitts on.
Oh, don’t got there? Why not?
“He defended a very unpopular killer”
This may be a clue to Judges, like Roberts, who
hold the actual Constitution in contempt as they
write “laws” on the fly, and lie in Court,
... to help criminals.
It’s one of the “race” buttons liberals like to push.
Competence requires melanin - did you miss the fundamental transformation?
The 50 senators voting on this judges appointment was like voting for&against a “King George/Castro Like” individual to be a leading civil rights Judge/Magistrate.
Was his father muslim?
Two words for this idiot: Miguel Estrada
This may accurately reflect what Roberts did and there's nothing wrong with "representing" murderers. That's the job of a lawyer.
But that misrepresents what Adegbile did in the Mumia case. He joined the radical leftwing propaganda campaign and praised Mumia to the heavens. He was a political partisan, not a person who could objectively enforce the law and enforce civil rights laws on a colorblind basis.
Adegbile, don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out. Good riddance.
For a fleeting moment I thought this headline was for an article about Judge Robert Bork.
Probably the most shallow construct I’ve ever read.
Thanks for posting. Interesting and informative of liberal faux-logic.
Roberts is of mixed ancestry? What British and Irish? What a weird comment.
And yes, there are depraved worthless humans who still have to be defended
It was part of a rhetorical bait-and-switch designed to evoke an outraged response from liberals who thought they knew who the author was talking about.
Yep, he’s apparently of Irish, Welsh and Czech ancestry. Can’t figure out that comment either.
I guess you could say we all are, I mean, female and male, very different species
Besides, any adult who takes on the name of a Sesame Street character isn't worthy of leading anything.
Exactly. In law school, I was told that you represent your client, you don't have to believe what your client says. Adegbile crossed the line when he acted as a "true believer" in his client's "cause." Even though that cause was patently based on lies. While that may make him a good advocate, it disqualifies him as unfit for public service.
Speaking for myself, at least.
