Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell promised a ballroom full of activists Thursday that he would fight tooth and nail for a conservative agenda if he takes the helm of a Republican majority next year.
That, of course, will require Republicans to pick up six Senate seats in November and McConnell to win his own re-election in Kentucky. The five-term incumbent faces a GOP primary challenger who regularly attacks him as an insufficient conservative leader.
McConnell walked on stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference to applause, thanks in part to a large rifle he held over his head before handing it to conservative icon Tom Coburn, who is resigning from his Oklahoma Senate seat at the end of the year. He went on to blast President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid before laying out how the Senate would be run under his leadership.
If Im given the opportunity to lead the United States Senate next year, I wont let you down, McConnell said. I will lead with integrity, we will fight tooth and nail for conservative reforms that put this country back on track, we will debate our ideas openly, we will vote without fear, and we will govern with the understanding that the future of this country depends on our success.
McConnell faces Louisville businessman Matt Bevin in the May 20 GOP primary. The winner will take on Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes in the general.

Marbles in his mouth McConnell, conservative agenda
Little late for that Mitch. @$##-off.
Who invited spineless RINO McConnell to a Conservative Convention?
Was mcConnell wearing a Carnation or a Rose?
See’s the writing on the wall...............
It’s is not what they say, judge them in what they do.
But he doesn’t believe in conservative action so he would eventually lapse back into his old ways. Like most who make those New Years resolutions.
Oh no...a gun-toting turtle at CPAC!
I was thinking he might look more natural with a peacock feather photoshopped in.
(yawn!) heard it all before... have yet to see it really happen. speak with your actions mitchie, not your mouth
Sadly, his constituents will once again buy the Gobbler’s Conservative B.S. Kind of like Arizona voters who keep voting for McCain.
You can’t fix stupid!
That's for sure. He's had lo these many years to establish his conservative bona fides and he's failed to deliver. Why should we believe him now.
LAME @ R(Rhino)PAC
This is reminiscent of Arlen Specter’s promises to both Bush and the GOP before his last successful election.
“Was mcConnell wearing a Carnation or a Rose?”
Geez...does he actually think that he’s fooling anybody by holding out “Ol’ Betsy?” over the crowd?
FU turd-le. Not one dimes worth of difference. I see no Conservative here.
