Bill to Make the Fine $0 for Violating the Individual Mandate Passes by 90 Votes
The Weekly Standard ^ | March 6, 2014 | Jeffrey H. Anderson

Posted on 03/06/2014 7:16:58 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The House of Representatives passed legislation Wednesday afternoon to make the fine/“tax” for violating Obamacare’s individual mandate $0 for this year, and it did so by the wide margin of 90 votes (250 to 160). That’s 83 more than the 7-vote margin (219 to 212) by which Obamacare passed the House four Marches ago. Moreover, 27 Democrats voted for today’s legislation—27 more than the number of Republicans who voted for Obamacare when it passed. In all, 223 Republicans voted for today’s bill, while only one—Paul Broun of Georgia—voted against it. Here’s the member-by-member tally for the vote.

Earlier today, the Obama White House released a 3-paragraph statement on the legislation, noting that Obamacare “helps millions of Americans stay on their parents’ plans until age 26”—which, of course, has nothing to do with the individual mandate or the fine/“tax” for violating it—and saying that if President Obama were presented with the legislation, “he would veto it.”

Given the wide margin by which the legislation passed the House, along with the significant level of bipartisan support with which it passed, perhaps the Senate will actually take a vote, pass the bill, and give Obama that chance. That would provide a welcome reminder to the American people of the extent to which Obama’s centerpiece legislation relies upon coercion.

But it also relies on lawlessness—a fact that is becoming more apparent by the day. Within hours of threatening to veto this legislative change to Obamacare, Obama announced that he is again making an executive change to Obamacare, in plain defiance of the legislative text, the rule of law, and the constitutional separation of powers. No wonder left-leaning constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley says that we are at “a constitutional tipping point” and that Congress must act to stop this president’s “dangerous,” “destabilizing” “aggregation of power.”

2nd, am going to go somewhere else rather than discuss the topic posted by you. You have my apology for going somewhere else rather than the topic.

Have been watching the sexual cases coming forth in (around) our Military. Have noticed the media is complacent and gives only one side. The side of condemnation against and for more (victims?) to come forward <-- there's that word again. Also am noticing high ranking officers are being accused of crimes. Have no evidence one way or another on guilt or innocence yet the whole thing is starting to smell and my alarm bells are going off in my gut.

I normally don't post threads and know there are countless threads which could be started regarding sex and our Military? I want to Thank You 2nd for being patient with me. Something very wrong is taking place and I have no idea what the bottom line is. Sometimes I really want to be a nutjob conspiracist to explain something but I usually don't go there. Any thoughts 2nd? Anyone?

Until someone is fined, no one has standing to go to court to contest the constitutionality of the ObamaCare “tax”. Postponing that day until the SCOTUS balance is firmly communist is not very smart. It also reduces Democrat pain in the next election.

Your gut is right; they are trying to eliminate those who would not fire on US citizenry...and who won’t obey the 0blummer regime. that is a fact that i cannot prove but believe my gut.

The lack of severability was going to be ignored if any part was ruled unconstitutional anyway.

Well, I’m certainly NOT the brightest bulb in the chandelier but I believed before it was ever unveiled that every aspect of it would be bogus. What possible reason was there for anyone but a ding dong doofus from Duluth to think there would be anything legitimate about it?

You certainly are generous, I’ll bet that if asked you would add another three zeroes to that without even blinking an eye. That would make it almost equal to my annual income.

To me it looks like the house is giving obama an “out”. The republicans don’t want the mandate. Obama issues an EO to delay the mandate and the republicans get pissed. Then they pass a bill to delay the mandate. They must have me confused.

By “bogus” I meant that not only were they poised to set up a Marxist replacement for the U.S. health care system, by claiming that they were helping the few who were uninsured (alone equivalent to killing a an with an atom bomb), but they knew that the very wheels and cogs of the new system would not even operate from the get go. The Obama administration are a demolition derby. They are out to destroy the U.S. economy and the pocketbooks of its working citizens, so that they would become totally reliant on government. You are right that one could have anticipated that the software itself would be pasted together from scrap heaps by the likes of Michelle Obama’s incompetent cronies and be paid amounts with so many more zeros at the end than imaginable even to the most jaded of government contractors.

They are out to destroy the U.S. economy

Correction:

They are set out to destroy the U.S. economy, military, borders, as a world power, natural family, morality, Constitution, and all freedoms enumerated therein.

Why does it matter if congress passes a bill? This president is lawless. He’ll just make up a new fine on his own and have the HHS secretary mandate it.

Oh, I don’t mean software, the whole thing is bogus because the whole concept is bogus, only the very naive and foolish would ever believe that anything good would come from having the government take over health care. Even if their intentions had been good they would have been paving the road to hell and the intentions of those who came up with this mess were never benign. If we had any kind of honest news media the people would know better than to fall for this kind of crap.
