Medical Examiner: Sudden cardiac arrest of Israel Hernandez-Llach was 'accidental'

Family blames....cops. Media agrees.
Did the kid threaten the cop? Or is the cop roided out of his mind? Or was he too fat to run and catch him?
Graffiti is wrong, but is it worth killing over? Bean-bagging over? Tazing? Clubbing?
Think about proportionality. If the kid is getting away, oh well. If you got him, great. Other than that, the cop is out of line.
Problem is that tasers are only supposed to be used as a last resort before drawing a pistol and shooting-—that’s how they were originally sold to the public by LEOs anxious to get them. Unless this tagger had his own gun out and was threatening the cops, then there was no call to use the taser.
To be concise, unless threatened there is no need for a weapon.
Well...who shot the kid with a taser?..a bystander?
And it certainly wasn’t an accident.
As an electrician I can assure you...there in no known “safe” threshold of electrocution.
Just because a certain percentage of people survive a cardiac arrhythmia induced by an electrical current...doesn’t mean everyone can...
“less than lethal” is still “more than harmless”
No excuse to the tagging....but tagging or simple fleeing and eluding shouldn’t bring a summery death sentence.
Yep. Tasing him is more than over the top.
“Sudden cardiac arrest of Israel Hernandez-Llach was ‘accidental’”
That’s not accidental. It was caused deliberately.
Sorry, Tasers are NOT NON-LETHAL.
According to the National Institute of Justice, the risk of death in a Taser-related use-of-force incident in the general population is approximately 0.25 percent (one in 400).”
That’s 1 in 400. Sucks to be in the quarter percent group. And that doesn’t even address the seriously injured cases.
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) The Medical Examiner has determined a cause of death for a teen who died after Miami Beach Police shocked the teen with a Taser last year. CBS4 News has confirmed that the Medical Examiner has ruled the cause of death for Israel Hernandez Llach was severe cardiac arrest brought on by the electrical current administered to him by a police Taser.
The death has been ruled accidental.
Hernandez Llachs parents were frustrated Thursday evening because they still had not received the official copy of the report.
A forensic report. Thats what we need. And where is it, the elder Israel Hernandez asked.
Seems like pretty low odds to me....certainly lower than bullets in a gun.
> Seems like pretty low odds to me....certainly lower than bullets in a gun.
1:400 seems low to me too. The statistics are from the “Just Us” department. They wouldn’t intentionally give low statistics would they? /s
Police in Miami have not made any of the reports of the incident public, but Officer Thomas Lincoln, who wrote the official incident report said that he did not see Hernandez shot by the Taser.
He said that when he arrived on the scene the teen was 'sitting on the ground and against a wall.'
It depends on whose house is being tagged, I guess.
You seem to have missed this from your excerpt:
Thomas Lincoln, who wrote the official incident report said that he did not see Hernandez shot by the Taser.
Perhaps the vandal had been tased before Lincoln arrived? Or, perhaps, the vandal was tased because of behavior AFTER Lincoln’s observation.
The Miami Beach police department has had to deal with all manner of sleazy criminals in the past few years....and they have been targeted by “civil rights” agitators and complainers for a long time.
I get tired of hearing from the apologists of criminals who want to blame cops for the bad choices of their charges.
The police officer in question, in my opinion, did not INTEND to cause the death of this kid. Is it sad that it happened?
Yes. Was it criminal? No.
Which means that if cops tase people routinely, deaths will also be routine.
The taser was intended as an alternative to having to subdue a violent criminal by the cop using his baton. (Note to some: if the criminal waves a knife or gun, the cop WILL respond with his gun, not his taser). Cops now tase people in preference to using any other means of compliance, since it reduces the chance of the cop getting bruised or his uniform torn.
As an electrician you should know that the definition of electrocution is “death caused by electricity”. The whole concept of “cution” (ie:death) kinda precludes a safe threshold.
IMO, tasings by police are probably up 1500% since Affirmative Action began compelling them to hire 5 foot 1 females as police officers. They can’t hang with a physical brawl for even a short period. Can’t really blame them as they have no other realistic options.
It may be legal, but it seems to me that using a taser in this context is excessive force.
If your property has never been tagged, you can be upset by the actions of the cop. If however your properties have been tagged multiple times, having open season on taggers may not sound like a bad idea.
