Chickens Roosting in the Crimea
Townhall.com ^ | March 7, 2014 | Erick Erickson

Since Jeremiah Wright has been the president's pastor for 20 years, Barack Obama should understand the concept of chickens coming home to roost. The chickens took up roosting in the Crimea in the past week. The Russian invasion is the logical outcome of an American foreign policy rooted in unseriousness.

Only three weeks ago our unserious secretary of state called "climate change" a threat to national security. This came less than two years after the then Chairman of the Joint chiefs of staff did the same and suggested we could repurpose our military for a "sustainable future."

This past week, after pledging to cut the American military to pre-World War II levels, our unserious secretary of defense claimed effects from climate change are "threat multipliers." Integrating openly gay soldiers and placing women in frontline combat positions are greater priorities for the Obama Administration than winning wars.

While Obama and his unserious advisors in a western world, grown too unserious about reality, focus on unserious topics, other nations of the world continue to jockey for national interest and Kremlin tanks continue pouring into Ukraine.

Until last week, we lived in a world where the West had grown comfortable that Francis Fukuyama was right and history had ended. Events would still happen, but the world would inevitably evolve toward liberal democracy. We all learned in college that liberal democracies were more stable and least prone to violence of all forms of government. Barack Obama, the British prime minister, the French president, and the rest of the West could sit around tables fretting about the environment, income inequality, unisex bathrooms, gay marriage and other issues. The West had concluded there were no longer national interests, but global interests where we would all win or all lose together.

It is the foreign policy view of the naive elite in comfortable times detached from the real world. The Aspen and Davos sets can tut-tut at world events, but their worldview and foreign policy have brought us to this point. That worldview both fostered and fed off of an unserious foreign policy press and analytical corps that saw the world through global issues and global interests.

Many of those within the foreign policy community with the biggest media platforms eschew the military, support progressive social views and generally think the world can get along if only the bully United States let others lead. They transition in and out of government -- a fourth estate that works in and around the first and second, whispering in ears, holding salons, and attending cocktail parties where worldview is more important than the wine selection.

And they all nodded approvingly when Barack Obama declared his intention to lead from behind.

While liberal diplomats from New York to Washington to London to Brussels came up with exciting new ways for nations to work together, some national leaders in some countries had other ideas -- they'd work for national interests. The West turned their militaries into test tubes of progressive social experimentation. Other countries maintained their militaries as blunt force instruments of death and destruction in defense of a nation state.

Now, China is more and more allied with Russia with both countries lusting after previously lost territories. China may soon risk war with Japan over some islands and Russia, knowing the West will do nothing to stop it, has invaded Ukraine.

Therein lies the problem. The West's unserious leaders still govern. The East knows this and knows it can continue unabated because the weak slaps of governments more concerned about gay marriage and global warming than national geopolitical interests are no deterrent to national interests.

The United States and Europe may be in a drum circle singing Kumbaya, but Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping intend to beat the West like a drum. We have moved back into a serious age. Western leaders too young to remember global war and ideological sympathetic to the losing side of the Cold War now find themselves staring at the losing side of history -- a more real and documented place than the left's so called "wrong side of history."

World War III will be a real bitch because the ungodly have convinced the past three generations that mankind is essentially good. The mask of that wishful thinking will be shredded as society implodes in the face of naked evil once again. Only those who believe in Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit will endure.

this woman is in contempt of Congress. America saw it unfold twice. There is no reason to delay. Away with her to the courtroom. Anyone delaying this is standing in the way of justice.

The East knows this and knows it can continue unabated because the weak slaps of governments more concerned about gay marriage and global warming than national geopolitical interests are no deterrent to national interests.

The East also knows that they can motivate their people to passionately support the national interests of Russia (or anyone else who wants to play the role) by pointing to the Western obsession with homosexuality.

I really don’t see what the big deal is here, we’ve done the same thing several times. Kosovo comes to mind as the prime example of us muscling territory away from another country.

This article is a load of cr@p.

During the Clintoon, Bushy II and Obozo administrations, for the last 20 years,

THE STATED POLICY OF EVERY US ADMINISTRATION

was to bring the former Soviet republics into the Western sphere of influence.

And every administration partnered with the “Western” World Bank, UN, NGOs, private equity, etc., etc., all the usual players - to work on exactly that.

Not only the former Soviet Republics....

but including Russia itself !

US corporations could not start doing business on their own in Russia without the US government allowing them to.

IBM, Boeing, Pepsi - hundreds, probably thousands of US companies do business with Russia.

Western NGOs are operating right now - all over the world - with the FUNDING and COOPERATION and SUPPORT of the US State Department - on bringing every little nation out there into their monopolistic cross-border trade and central banking frameworks, and they have been for decades.

Therefore, as much as I know that Obama is a scam of a puppet, the Obama administration is and was always COMPLETELY AWARE of EVERYTHING going on in the former Soviet republics in the name of Westernizing them.

If the reader is unaware of this, they most certainly can read up a little for themselves on US-Ukraine relations for the past 20 years.

What weasely propaganda this article is.

Oh that’s a little hard on Ericson. As the dismemberment of the USSR occured there were a ton of opportunities that opened up. The problem was the people who were in control suddenly turned into greedy capitalists and thrived through its subsequent corruption when their privatization of nationalized industries took place that Russians did not deal with.

At the time everyone hoped Russia would open up and become and have a open society. There were voices here as well as in Russia where they were literally killed off warning of a development like Putin comming to the center stage. But some here decided to “work with” them hence today’s events.

Oppurtunities don't just magically "open up". Precisely who was involved. Precisely what did they do.

Precisely who was in control. They "suddenly" turned into greedy capitalists ? More magic.

Huh ? Voices warning of a mysterious Putin-like character ? LOL. That's funny.

The term "open society" is a new world order term, and it's meaningless, godless, evil cr@p.

Open society is pushed as a design to open up a nation to being subverted, but by slow increments within its own legal system. Well, right up until they have some protests and demand the government step down and allow a new government to form.

We should, IMHO, think twice before supporting evil, godless protests against governments.

I can't speak to the topic of Russia and Putin. They are not American, they are a foreign country to me. I don't wish them or any country any ill will. As long as we stay out of other nations' internal affairs, and they stay out of ours, we should be able to get along well.

But global banksters, globalist traders, new world order, financial elites and their international finance and central banking organizations - who have far too much influence in diplomacy and espionage and government - continually keep mucking around inside EVERY nation's government and private sector, with no loyalty to any nation. So there is continued struggle and strife, most of it bankster-generated.
