NPR's Liberal Geography: Our Taxes pay for an outfit having trouble identifying north and south

Democrats from President Barack Obama's very own party joined Republicans derailing Obama's nominee, Debo Adegbile, for the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department.

Explaining the failure, the taxpayer funded National Public Radio (NPR) announced

“a handful of southern Democrats joined Republicans yesterday to defeat President Obama’s choice to head the Justice Department’s civil rights division.”

Jonah Goldberg at National Review Online  helpfully named the "handful of southern Democrats", something NPR failed to do.  Here they are: 

Chris Coons (Del.)
Bob Casey (Pa.)
Mark Pryor (Ark.)
Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.)
Joe Manchin (W.V.)
Joe Donnelly (Ind.) 
John Walsh (Mont.) 

And, of course, Harry Reid (Nev.), who did it for procedural grounds.

What's that you say?  Only two of the eight, or just 1/4, are southern Democrats; 3/4 are northern Democrats, some very far north. 

So why did NPR, which must have some limited knowledge of US geography, label the dissenting Democrats as southern?  Hmmm.

My local NPR has screwed up its classical music thing, which is the main reason for NPR IMNVHO, it is now wall-to-wall Leftist "news."

They put the music on a station that has overlapping signals from 3 or 4 other FM outlets, and thus cannot be heard clearly, if at all. Incompetent engineering.

Every place is always south relative to some other place.

So, let's define what is OFFICIALLY considered "The South" in these United States.

Why not add SOUTH Dakota to the list?

This definition was developed by someone who believes everything south of Philly is “The South”, excepting the Left Coast.

I think where they’re coming from is that Delaware and Maryland were slave states on the south side of the Mason-Dixon line and West Virginia was part of Virginia until 1863.

I always thought the Mason Dixon line was the official divider.

I haven’t spent much time in MD, but I find WV to be much more culturally southern than a significant part of VA that surrounds DC.

WV, KY and NE TN are difficult to distinguish.

Lib logic: if the two southern Democrats had voted with the Democrats, then with Reid’s vote it would have been 50-50, and Biden would have broken the tie. Ergo, its the fault of the two southern Democrats, ignoring the six northern ones entirely.
