Bipartisan: Texas Democrat Wants to Repeal Obamacare and Impeach Obama

Here's a story too funny to not report.

In a field of five, no Democrat senatorial candidate received 50% of the votes in yesterday's Texas primary. As a result, Kesha Rogers is in a runoff with David Alameel on May 27.

Rogers will not stand a chance in the runoff as the party will do everything to stop her because her views are "Democratically bizarre" to say the least.

According to The Hill ...

Rogers supports impeaching President Obama, repealing ObamaCare and “crushing Wall Street.” She also advocates the reinstatement of the Glass-Steagall Act to limit securities trading, and has a detailed plan for space exploration and harnessing thermonuclear fusion energy. In the past, she’s drawn Hitler mustaches on Obama posters and likened ObamaCare to practices of Nazi doctors.

Thoughts on Welfare Drug Testing

Welfare drug testing is the wrong way to go. The last thing we need is another government program to do anything.

I expect it would cost more to administer than it would save in reduced payouts. Besides, it would hurt kids in poor families whose parents happen to be using drugs.

Instead, I make a commonsense proposal on food stamps.

Mish SNAP Proposal

• Prohibit food stamp purchases of potato chips, snacks, soft drinks, candy, pizza, frozen foods of any kind except juice.
• Limit food stamp users to generic (store brand vs. name brand) dried beans, rice, peanut butter, pasta, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, frozen (not bottled) juice, canned vegetables, canned soup, soda crackers, poultry, ground beef, bread, cheese, powdered milk, eggs, margarine, and general baking goods (flour, sugar, spices).
• Calculate a healthy diet based on current prices, number in the family, ages of recipients, and base food stamps allotments on that diet.
• In the interest of health and cleanliness, expand the food stamp program to include generic soap and laundry products.

My proposal will not only lower the cost of the food stamp program, the resultant healthier diets would lower Medicaid and Medicare costs as well.

Moreover, my proposal would give people a strong incentive to get off the food stamp program without intrusive, costly big-brother ideas like drug testing which cannot possibly work for the simple reason that anyone who fails will steal to get food rather than starve.

Still, if her first two campaign issues are 1) Impeach Obama, and 2) Repeal Obamacare, the runoff election gets interesting.

Apparently a lot of Texas Democrats don’t like either Obama or Obamacare, and even if Rogers is a loon, they can send a clear message of their dislike of both by voting for her without doing any lasting damage (since Cornyn is the heavy favorite in the general election.)

2 Questions:

Can GOP voters cross over in the runoff if they’ve already voted in the GOP primary?

Can any voter who didn’t vote in the primary still vote in the runoff?

Depending upon the answers I see a potential opportunity for another Operation Chaos here. Imagine the headlines if the Senate Democrat nominee chosen by Texans supported both impeachment and repeal.

Actually, it's not another government program, it's an already existing government handout program that adds requirements to simply prevent subsidizing luxury items. If they can afford alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs, then they can afford to buy their own food.

That said, I fully agree with several of your ideas regarding making the purchasables more restrictive. I was at Whole Foods the other day and some lady in front of me had a huge cart with their organic fancy steaks, fancy veggies, etc. and she paid for most of it, ~$80, with an EBT card, and the remaining $30ish with cash (had a whole wad of 20s in her nice-looking wallet).

If anything, we should definitely restrict them to basic staples of foods: cheap meats like chicken/pork/ground beef, beans, rice, veggies, flour, etc., as well as getting rid of the auto-deposited debit card. Go back to actually issuing food 'stamps'. And they're subject to random drug testing (minimum once/year, plus when they first sign up) when they pick up their stamps.

I would bet even just a couple of these changes would cut the food stamp costs by half at least.

Sec. 172.125. ADDITIONAL PROCEDURE FOR ACCEPTING VOTERS IN RUNOFF.
(a) For a runoff primary election, the voter registrar shall enter on the list of registered voters a notation beside each voter's name indicating the preceding party primary for which the voter was accepted for voting, if any.
(b) An election officer at a runoff primary election polling place shall determine whether the name of a voter offering to vote is noted on the list as having been accepted for voting in another party's primary. If the voter's name is so noted, the voter may not be accepted for voting at the runoff unless the voter executes an affidavit stating that the voter did not vote in the primary or participate in a convention of another party during the same voting year.

You may not switch parties in between primary and runoff, in Texas. You can switch parties between now and November though.

The food stamp program isn’t an area I’ve given much thought to, but here goes:

Kids in school are fed free or reduced-price meals, and most schools now serve both breakfast and lunch.

Kids 5 and older are therefore fed. If they truly come to school hungry, let them eat more at the two meals provided.

Kids under 5, what to do? Here, some sort of extension of the free or reduced-price program could be set up. Meal tickets exchangeable for pre-packaged complete meals could be issued to those who qualify for them. Food companies would rapidly develop those meals to meet the demand. Special debit cards could be issued that could only be used on the qualifying pre-packaged meals.

Adults: Expand the Earned Income Tax Credit to replace food stamps completely, but instead of returning all of the tax credit at tax filing time, issue debit cards and add 2% of the annual tax credit to the card every week so that money is available weekly to spend on food and other needs.

If they want to spend it on cigarettes and alcohol, so be it. This is still America, after all.

In other words, replace the food stamp program with a) sufficient funding for all schools to offer breakfast and lunch programs, b) a pre-packaged kid’s meal program for those under school age, and c) an expansion of the EITC to incorporate food stamp spending.

Then structure the EITC so that it doesn’t hamper an individual’s efforts to join the work force.

And finally, tackle most of the other welfare programs the same way.

Thanks for the info. That makes Operation Texas Chaos a little more complicated, but not much.

OPERATION TEXAS CHAOS

Purpose: To utterly embarrass the national Democrat Party and President Obama

Method: Every GOP voter who did not cast a vote in the GOP primary remains eligible to vote in the Democrat runoff primary. Do so, and vote for Rogers, the black candidate who advocates impeaching Obama, repealing Obamacare, rebuilding NASA, and who thinks global warming is a crock.

My main fear is that when she wins, which with sufficient GOP support she almost certainly would, GOP voters who don’t like Cornyn might vote again for her in the general election. Then I find myself wondering whether that would be a bad thing. It would certainly accomplish the Purpose of Operation Texas Chaos.

It would also likely mark the end of open primaries, and that would be a truly good thing.

Correct. In Texas, if you vote in the GOP Primary, you CANNOT vote in the Democrat run-off election. And vice versa. Which is only fair.

I know nothing about her other than what I’ve read this morning, but it appears that she runs as a Democrat, but the Texas Democrat Party wishes she’d disappear. I really think there’s potential here for really messing with the Democrats’ heads, both in Texas and nationally.

This situation, by the way, illustrates why a primary system that requires 50% to avoid a runoff has some problems unless it’s a closed primary where only those registered in the party are allowed to choose their candidate.

Why the GOP lets a Democrat have any say whatsoever in who will appear on the GOP side of the ballot completely eludes me. Makes no sense. Never has, never will.

In ‘86 here in IL 2 LaRouchies won the RAT nominations for LT Governor (in IL the LT runs on a ticket with the Governor) and Sec of State.

Yes, they should be the size of a roadmap, come only in small denominations and take a half hour to process.

Food stampers would have to be in their own special checkout line.
