A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 239 people has lost contact with air traffic control and was still missing two hours after it was supposed to have landed in Beijing, the airline said Saturday morning.
The airline told NBC News that a search-and-rescue mission was under way but said it had no further information.
The flight from Kuala Lumpur, carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members, had been scheduled to land at 6:30 a.m. in Beijing (5:30 p.m. ET Friday).
The dominant religion in Malaysia is Islam, whose followers make up 61% of the population. Islam is recognised as the state religion of Malaysia....

Aw, crap. Prayers for the passengers and crew.
Yeah, all we can hope for is a total electronics failure of some sort. But I don’t think it is possible to just lose all comms/transponders/avionics/etc. and have everything turn out okay in the end.
Looks like about 20 minutes flight time, then....
The flight path seems like it should be over land, but I have been on flights that took routes that did not make sense.

Most of the flight would be over land, except for the leg from Malaysia to Vietnam - that’s over water.
