Move over Barbie, there's a new doll in town that is making headlines.

This is Lammily – and she's being called "Average Barbie."

Her body shape is based on averages of data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

You can see in the above image that she's shorter and a little wider than the traditional Barbie.

How about an average-looking male action figure.

He Man and the masters of the beer gut.

Thor, god of thunder thighs.

Because there is nothing at all unreasonable about comic book and doll versions of male anatomy.

Hell, I demand that Chris Hemsworth stop working out and gain 50 pounds because he makes me feel bad.

Barbie was first introduced in the 1950s.

True. I have read that the original Barbie Doll was modeled after some kind of 'doll' that the Germans made for their troops, based on the idea of a perfect German woman. While I don't know if that's completely true, it is true that it was certainly based on some one's idea of a perfect female.

Maybe the reason she is so skinny was so the manufacturer could save on plastic.

I don’t see her as so skinny, Wikipedia says that she was estimated as 36-18-33, well she is a doll so this stuff is meaningless, besides, even those numbers are not so far from the reality of my ex.

Do people do this with male “action figures”? I never owned a GI Joe and all that, but are they all supposed to be proportional to a preferred human, (are humans all proportional to some ideal?), aren’t cartoon figures drawn with 3 fingers because the proportions don’t work with cartoons or representations of human figures crunched down to 11”, like Barbie is?

Was your German doll this one? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild_Lilli_doll

So, it is the Governments job to design dolls?

Where did I say anything about the government being involved with dolls? Where did the article say anything about the government being involved with dolls?

I agree! My two year old has a solid adorable realistic body. I don’t think she would or should ever be skinny skinny. Who would I give her these babies to play with when they are so unrealistic? Real girls are beautiful just the way they are.

Apparently reading and comprehending the English language is not in your pay grade.

The article mentions a government study to get the data.

I responded with the Government should have better things to do with our money.

You came back with some trite about how I am being ‘foolish’ for disputing the Government collecting data about obesity etc.

Now if you were following the thread apparently you missed the part about the Government study.

If you misread or misconstrued what my point was trying to be, I apologize.

If not, well you know what you can do.

There is no government study “to get the data”, nor is one mentioned in the article.

If there is please feel free to post the NIH research number of the study.

I’ve always thought Barbie dolls were more accurate in depicting how real women think than in how they look.

they draw three fingers because it’s cheaper than our, easier to animate.
