The food machines that process my vegetables are powered by gas or electricity and don't poop in the processing area!
Yes, it is sad when even Conservatives talk like idiots.
This all leads back to the progressive destruction of the family (ie the family farm/ homestead)
Americans used to produce their own. If more Americans got back to that then this wouldn’t be a problem.
+1. I’m okay with it.
Eggs, Milk, 2 rashers and a piece of toast, Apple and 1/2 a sandwich, 4 oz lean meat, green leafy vegetable.
$9 for a healthy food day. X 4 makes it $36 per day for a family of 4. $252 a week for rouglhy $1000 per month for a family of 4. Working with a tight budget and trying to maintain healthy eating.
with a %20 increase in eggs ... increases the monthly expense by $67.
That sow is ready to be bread.
Or even bred.
As someone who actually LIVED on a farm and knows what "go out back and get a chicken for dinner" actually meant, I'd bet no one else on this thread would have the guts to truly "make their own dinner" from killing it, gutting and cleaning it and getting it ready for the frying pan.
They'll probably call me an animal abuser for this post, the gutless sissies.
No one is forcing you to eat eggs.
And no one’s forcing you to post nonsense, yet here you are.
Bump Ah dee Bump Bump!
Oh boy. Koster is a Democrat gunning for governor one of these days in an agriculture state. That gives him points. Secondly, for conservatives the issue IS commerce at this point. Missouri may one day require a different way of producing eggs but not today. So, no, hostile California should not dictate how we should produce product.
That's how such decisions should be made, not at the point of a gun as many are suggesting.
The Organic label was developed to address many of the concerns people have. I notice that isn't enough; guns have been introduced into the picture to force their beliefs on people like me.
I just did a little research.
CA used to be the country's #1 egg producer but is #5 now, with it's production dropping from 8.5billion eggs per year to a little over 4billion.
CA is only producing 1,000 eggs per year, per resident.
Yep, only 1,000.
A male cougar.
Wait. Aren’t all males cougars? Or is it only all rich males?
usconservative post 44
CORRECTION: That’s only ONE HUNDRED eggs per year per person.
And the law hasn’t even taken effect yet. Wait until it does and CA is producing 10 eggs per person/year!
I suspect at the rate California is hemorraging other businesses, it won't be long before the rest of the egg producers either leave the state or are forced out of business as a result of this ridiculous law ... and that's the way it should be. When a state makes it intolerable to do business and compete, they'll have only themselves to blame when business' leave and they lose their tax base.
Two states leading that trend are California and Illinois. Both blue states. No surprise there.
Looking into my crystal ball, I can forsee a resurgence in the nearly forgotten art of chicken thieving and cattle rustling. I am setting up a website to educate those interested in gaining the necessary skills, for a small fee of course. I am also adding two other courses, Fishin with Dynamite, and of course, Catfishing Made Easy with the Old Crank Telephone at a small addition charge. These are skills that will last a lifetime. Not required but highly recommended, Sprinting While Carrying a Burden. These courses are accelerated as the life expectancy in some states of my students can be somewhat short. Cash only. No payment plans available.
Good point, Dale. That’s why I get my food-machine byproduct at a supermarket where it’s wrapped in plastic. I hire out the poop collection process to the dudes at the ranch.
It’s a fair business exchange. If folks want to pay more for food that’s been cared for in a more expensive way, all power to ‘em, this is still the United States, friend. What must be resisted is the liberal urge to force everybody to also buy more expensive food as a way of salving their own consciences.
(My wife sez to extend her good wishes to yours, Dale.)
We have always been an unruly class.
That sow is ready to be bread.
Bwaaaaahahahaha! Ya got me! As I always say;
“Spell czech is knot yore friend!
I love funny typos, and can laugh at myself quite easily! Thanks for catching that! I gotz a big smile on my face right now!
And that’s the best part about us! :-)
A point lost on many on this thread --- Game, Set, Match: Cyber Liberty.
Sprinting While Carrying a Burden has always been a popular course in the inner city. It’s a companion course with Hurling Paving Bricks Through Windows.
Sometime I just can’t help it. the wisdom just bubbles up and can’t be stopped.
It’s like a damn maricle
I thought I was gonna get a dressing-down from you, turns out not. :)
We had a very tight group way-back-when. Its broader now. I like it either way.
The thing I am most distressed about are the Republican partisans who would insist I vote for Andy Cuomo for President if he had a Republican label.
A lot of people have forgotten, or maybe never knew, that the 'Organic' label was designed to cover those types of food.
Like the homosexual lobby, they aren't content to have their own foods, they must have everyone accept their foods. Even a bunch of Freepers.
Give me my inorganic foods and leave me the hell alone!
I wasn’t raised on a farm, but my parents were and are familiar with the “Go get dinner from out back” routine. Just watch out for the pinfeathers.
Story from my yout: I was about five when I had a Rhode Island Red decide to chase me around my Gramma’s chicken yard. Gramma “went out back” that day to fetch us dinner, and the Chicken and Dumplins were extra good that night.
It is a sad day when people who know nothing about food production suddenly start demanding you raise it “their way or else!”
We’ve seen lots of that recently.
Comes from hanging out with yous guys for over a decade and a half.
Hard to believe but California will have a illegal black market for eggs if this passes legal hurdles...
"What's you in for ?"
"I'm doing 5 to 10 for selling illegal eggs"
I am glad you have enough disposable income to be able to buy top of the line stuff but the rest of the world does not.
The argument is the same liberals make about having a Wal-mart move into an area.
My question is why should fly over country be short changed in relation to these soon to be very important skills? My plan will level the playing field for everyone. As an advanced course I will soon be offering to the surviving students of my chicken and cattle courses, Pig Stealing Made Easy. I plan to put the bacon back in bringing home the bacon. Now accepting Visa and Mastercard.
Is that suppose to pass for wit?
We could have a philosophical discussion all day over why that is. Is it because they think they're doing us a favor? Reducing health-care costs? Maybe they don't like paying more for "organic" and think the cost of that stuff can be driven down by forcing all food to be handled that way?
Beats me. Doesn't matter to me, they need to butt out. As for this bit about California determining how everybody else lives, I think about that every time I pump gas into my car. I live in AZ and we get our gas from CA primarily, and we have to pay whatever little premium they choose to add onto the price.
So, you feed a nation by torturing the animals?
Actually I think this will affect the cost of eggs only in CA.
Most producers will not comply and will maintain lucrative contracts elsewhere.
Then there will be some who comply from out of state and they'll have a lucrative market within CA.
And the going rate for eggs will be $2.50/doz everywhere but CA where it will be $4.00.
As someone who has raised a quarter million hogs, birth to market, I know a little something about how best to raise animals.
You, apparently, not so much.
Nor do these other clowns who want to impose their religious beliefs on me at the point of a gun.
You’ll clean up. You’ll be accepting AmEx before Obastard leaves office. He’s leaning extra-hard on the flyover crackas.
The good news is that our food costs are so low that we can have these ‘discussions’, instead of fighting over who gets the last scrap of food.
A stressed chicken will not lay.
A starved chicken will not lay, and the other chickens will break and devour the eggs that are laid.
A debeaked chicken will not cannibalize other chickens. Only about 1/8 of the tip of the upper beak is removed from the baby chick.
Small coop doors help keep PREDATORS out. I lost my last flock to predator.
Too many roosters will fight each other and cause havoc and stress in the coop.
New chickens introduced into a flock will be thrashed and whipped without mercy by the older hens.
Free range chickens require constant monitoring because the chickens will often hide the eggs. Caged chickens don't.
The OLDEN method of raising free range chickens. You feed cattle, some food passes through undigested.
You run hogs after the cattle which eat the manure. Some of that feed will not be digested and passes through.
You run chickens behind the hogs to get the undigested feed in the manure.
Any chicken that dies is thrown to the hogs.
Now THAT is a free range chicken!
Think of it when you crack an egg.
Nice strawman you built there. He didn’t have a chance against your superior warrior skills.
Define 'animals quality of life'.
I think you are correct. The markets will develop to meet the new paradigm.
But: When Californians start bitching about their four-buck eggs, California will start looking for ways to force the rest of the country to pay. Ask Amazon about that, they’ll be happy to tell you about their experience with the CA machine.
Great minds think alike.
Nor does our concern about those creatures give us the moral right to control those who do not share those concerns.
Amen. Let’s make sure it stays that way.
