Republicans gain momentum in close fight for U.S. Senate

Eight months before the November 4 elections, Republicans have expanded the number of competitive races for U.S. Senate seats and have a growing chance of gaining control of that chamber and stalling Democratic President Barack Obama's second-term agenda.

Public dissatisfaction with the president, concerns about his healthcare overhaul and a sluggish economy, and a series of retirements by key Democratic senators in conservative states have made a rugged year for Democrats even more so, analysts and strategists in both parties say.

As I said before I don’t like the idea of running Brown in NH, (he should run in MA) but since the NH GOP has nothing else to offer, I can’t object.

Collins, Kirk, Murkowski, and ?

Kirk is up for re-election in 2016. It being Illinois I don't see him being re-elected.

One good reason why Brown is now trailing is lack of name recognition vs. the 'Rat incumbent.

He was the senator from the Massachusetts and you think he doesn't have name recognition in New Hampshire? I think it's more due to him being a carpetbagger. Not every state is a New York who welcomes them with open arms.

Kirk is protected by the Combine, same as Durbin.

And there it is.

Liberals have boatloads of money obtained illicitly.

You are right. The Union Leader is a center-right paper these days. With TV & electronic media in place they no longer control the message in the state.

Kirk is what passes for a Republican in the bluest of Blue states. Plus it's a presidential election year. And there's his health issue. I'd say he's toast.

Naah, there’s real Republicans in Illinois. He was the fakest of the bunch. He’s a puppet of the same political clique that elevated Zero to power, too. If the GOP gets a majority this year, the Combine will need to keep Kirk in there. They’re also going to anoint another Combiner RINO (and Rahm Emanuel buddy) in Rauner as Governor this year to replace the current Combiner Democrat. All one big happy corrupt bipartisan cabal in Illinois.

If the GOP takes over the Senate this year then the Democrats will make it a point to target Kirk and beat him. They'll run Simon or Duckworth or some African-American candidate and pick the seat back up.

He was only in the Senate for a short time and he's been out for a while now. Most voters have a very poor historical memory when it comes to politics, which is a major reason why 'Rats win more elections than they otherwise would.

I believe that you will find the Palmetto people are as dense as the Cornball Texans when it comes to Loveable Lindsey, who will be easily re-nominated and then reelected. Palmettos and Lone Stars demand brand names, and there is nothing we can do about it.

Run on an unapologetically conservative platform - smaller government, tax relief, dismantle Obamacare, strong defense, enforce our immigration laws - and the senate is their's in a cakewalk.

But whoa unto the GOP if they again fail to deliver.

"lovable linda" isn't doing so hot in the polls now. And she has, as of last count, five challengers to overcome in the primary. These are: businesswoman Nancy Mace, state Sen. Lee Bright, activist Richard Cash, attorney Bill Connor and Pastor Det Bowers.

And there's this:

Source.

linda needs 50% +1 in the primary to avoid a runoff. Her chances of that are flagging.

Never fear. The Republicans will enfranchise 20 million new Democrat voters before November.

>> Kirk is what passes for a Republican in the bluest of Blue states <<

Actually, we have an unabashedly pro-life and pro-gun Republican elected to a statewide office right now (Dan Rutherford, Illinois State Treasurer). He easily carried all the "moderate" suburbs where you supposedly to have worship Planned Parenthood and hate guns to be "electable". (the Mark Kirk fan club ignored that fact, of course). Anyway, that's more than can be said for "conservative" states like Virginia.

Unfortunately, the combine decided to destroy him because he opted to run for Governor this year without their blessing. Worse, a bunch of useful idiot Illinois "conservatives" believe whatever the liberal media tells them about Rutherford. The manufactured "sexual harassment scandal" will disappear once he's no longer running for office, like the ones the left used against Clarence Thomas and Herman Cain.

>> If the GOP takes over the Senate this year then the Democrats will make it a point to target Kirk and beat him. <<

If the Senate is down to the wire and Kirk's seat could decide the majority, Kirk will pull a Jim Jeffords/Arlen Specter and announce he's switching parties because he "cannot in good conscience caucus with tea party extremists that have hijacked the Republican agenda". He'll hold a press conference with his fawning pals in the liberal media and tell everyone nothing has changed his party affliction and that he will continue to be "a voice for moderation within the Democratic caucus", then he will veer far to the left shortly afterwards. All the freepers who told us back in 2010 that Kirk is "with us when it counts" and laughed off the idea that Kirk would ever switch parties will be AWOL.

In the event Kirk has an epiphany, betrays his combine masters, and does NOT switch parties, I agree he'd be "toast" and they'd take him out with an official RAT party member.

Of course, I don't see a scenario unfolding where Kirk's seat will make the difference over who controls the Senate. Mostly likely, Illinois won't matter nationally in 2016, and Kirk will continue to do the Dem's bidding as a "Republican" Senator.

Brown is pro-abortion, pro-gay-marriage, and supports “sensible” gun control legislation.

I’ll not be voting for him in the primary or in the general.
