OXON HILL, Md. -- Looking out on a ballroom full of friendly faces, former Alaska Gov. and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin closed the 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday with a 34-minute soliloquy on the state of American politics - including a riff on what has become one of her favorite topics of late: "Duck Dynasty."
Attempting to drive home a point about the "perpetual 'panties-in-a-wad people'" who go after firebrands like her, Palin thrilled the crowd of activist conservatives when she reminded them about the time the media got "their skirts all tangled up over their heads" about the A&E show.
Phil Robertson, the "Duck Dynasty" patriarch, was briefly suspended from the series over controversial remarks he made about gay people.
"Here's Phil, he's talking about faith, with a reporter from GQ - first mistake," Palin commented to laughter. "But in between saying that he loves humanity, he loves all us sinners and - leave it to God to judge - well, he quoted the Bible, and he got colorful in expressing his opinion.
"So what did that brilliant TV network do?" she went on. "They fired him. They canned the devout Christian for expressing his devout Christian views on a television show about his devout Christian family."
But Robertson, as Palin pointed out, was reinstated to the network hit a week later. She credited "people all over America" - not just "the wingers and clingers" - for having "pushed back - and we won."
Palin has faded largely from public view since a somewhat tumultuous fall from grace after her brief stint as John McCain's running mate in 2008...

See BS is looking at it from their point of view. If it ain’t on their network it ain’t in the public eye.
I’m glad Sarah addressed the CPAC, but please Sarah next time, no more Dr. Seuss. You make it so easy for the lame stream to ignore the many more important parts of your speech.
It would be nigh impossible for her to not get slighted, so why not just address the people that matter. If she gets a faithful treatment on Fox she does well.
So? The do that without fail ANYWAY. Night as well score points with the people that matter.
The less we all care about the MSM the better.
Palin is the most vetted Presidential candidate evah. No one knows anything about the fraud Soetoro.
I can not profess to really know or fully understand, but in a sense, am thinking, the reading of Dr. Seuss sends a clear understandable message. We have nothing more than children in charge. In adult bodies who never grew up. And maybe, just maybe thats all understanding they are capable of. Dr. Seuss level of intelligence.
After that thought, i thought it was funny as hell and most appropriate.
Michelle probably made Barack take his shoes off first if he was going to watch CPAC. Last time he watched Sarah Palin on CPAC, he threw his $400. florshiems INTO the TV set, and ruined it for the girls’ plans to watch American Idol that evening. He can’t blame another cracked TV screen on BO the dog this time.
Thats exactly how I see it.
Carney would say global warming induced perspiration caused his shoe to dislodge as he ran to the situation room to get the latest security briefing on the Russia situation.
I understand SeeBS is going to charge her rent :)
Get real. They are going to ignore the important parts of her speech anyway. Dr. Seuss will stay with them and everyone. Lighten up Louise!
No way... he really threw shoes into a TV?
No, as Sarah would say, I’m makin stuff up.
I love how her being part of a presidential election team that did not win is considered a “fall from grace” by CBS. A fall from grace? Since when is losing an election a fall from grace? Fall from grace implies some moral deficiency, not losing an election. If that is the standard, then Al Gore fell from grace as much as Sarah Palin did. Geez. What semantical dolts.
If a person wants to reach an audience (those who vote), it is best to communicate in a manner that they can understand!
Senator Ted Cruz and Governor Sarah Palin as the bookends to this year’s CPAC was good planning.
It really should be “CBS Opinion”, there isn’t any news within 20 miles of CBS.
Sarah knew it would hit a nerve and especially irritate the LSM, RINOs, and the WH.
I think her big point in opening with it was to throw it in their faces about all the incredibly stupid things obama has said, and it’s all ignored. But they attack Sen. Cruz for nothing, just as they’ve done to her. Even some members of his own party attacked him over it, never once giving him accolades about his excellent points on the Constitution during that filibuster (that I’m aware of).
Think about it, the media, dims, and RINOs all tore Sen. Cruz apart for reading Green Eggs and Ham, so Sarah tore into their hypocrisy and mocked them and “the won”with her version.
The bonus: She knew she would have them talking about it, then those who might not have heard her excellent points, will likely take the time to do so.
Thousands loved the Seuss reprise. Since they didn’t ask anyone else to close the CPAC meeting, they obviously like her style and her courage to express herself in her own terms. It’s refreshing not to see everyone canned and packaged...and ignored.
“Sarah next time, no more Dr. Seuss.”
Why? It was cleaver and made the point. Sarcasm is a powerful weapon.
Sarah Palin. Making liberals head explode since 2008.
We might have won, but the ratings have tanked big time.
but please Sarah next time, no more Dr. Seuss.
They are saying that she is making fun of Cruz.
Fall from grace? Grace from who exactly? The MSM? What arrogance on the part of the writer. F&^$% the MSM. Attempting to appease the MSM, ala John McCain, is the #1 problem with rhino-types. This gives the MSM power. More politicians should whack the MSM upside the head ala Palin. Appeasement shows weakness.
You misunderstand her tactic......... she was making it so simple that even a lame brain, bottom of the heap, uneducated, Acorn/SIEU partisan could understand.
Biting humor is terrifically effective
We watched her speech from start to finish and enjoyed every bit of it. I think the Dr. Seuss bit was funny and clever.
The Dr. Suess riff was an example Rule #5:
Ridicule is mans most potent weapon. There is no defense. Its irrational. Its infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.
I sense a little jealousy from this so-called journalist, Lindsey Boermer.
If she’s so “faded from public view” then why are they talking about her?????
Robertson’s colorful language was about sexuality and private parts but the media rewrote it as they always do into an attack on people when it wasn’t.
This article pretty much proves the point Palin made about how the media carries the water of those who constantly claim to be “offended” and believe in “tolerance” and “acceptance” at the same time.
BEING TOLERANT AND ACCEPTING OF OTHERS WORKS BETTER WHEN YOU ARE NOT OFFENDED BY WHAT OTHERS SAY. THE MOMENT SOMEONE TELLS ME THEY ARE ‘OFFENDED’ THEY ARE TELLING ME THEY ARE NOT ‘TOLERANT’ OR ‘ACCEPTING’ OF OTHERS.
I have noticed that Sarah Palin is a MUCH more polished speaker. She appears to have worked very hard on her public speaking skills.
