Missing MAS flight: Imposters captured on CCTV, DCA chief confirms
TheStar (Malaysia) ^ | 03/09/2014 | Lee Yen Mun

Posted on 03/09/2014 2:33:12 PM PDT by BuckeyeTexan

SEPANG: The two impostors who travelled on the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 using fake passports were captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Department of Civil Aviation director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said the CCTV recordings would be used in the department’s investigations.

“We have CCTV recordings from the point of check-in right up to departure point,” Azharuddin said in a press conference here, Sunday.

Italian Luigi Maraldi, whose name is on the manifest, was not on the missing MAS flight.

According to news reports from Italy which quoted its Foreign Ministry, Luigi Maraldi’s passport was stolen last August while he was in Thailand.

Meanwhile, London’s Daily Mirror reported that a second passenger was also using a stolen passport.

Austrian Christan Kozel has been confirmed as safe and well by authorities.

He told Austrian newspaper De Standard that his passport was stolen when he visited Thailand two years ago.

“Can’t wait to see what the impostors look like.”

Well, if they look like what we all think they do, you won’t be seeing it on non-FOX US TV. Too politically-incorrect to show.

In order to be able to use the passports, wouldn’t they have to look somewhat like the passport pictures?

They could probably have changed the photos - at least that’s what I see on TV - but they ought to look something like that is their actual name I would think.
With the Italian this probably wouldn’t be hard - not sure about the Austrian.

Also, occurred to me that given Malaysia’s demographics they might have been able to easily pay off a border control person to get on the plane.

And we now know Interpol has those passports on their ‘stolen’ list but the airline ever bothered to check
and people complain Isreal is too strict
I bet they check each passport

The airlines don’t have access to Interpol’s stolen passport database. It’s available only to law enforcement, which is an ignorant policy, IMHO.

Either that or they’d have to replace the real pics with theirs and still match up as to age and sex. What I don’t understand is why stolen passports aren’t universally and instantly deactivated, just as stolen credit cards are.

This is just being reported. No idea if it's accurate.

Pictures purporting to be the wreckage of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH 370 are circulating on the Chinese social media site Weibo.

THAT is amazingly ignorant. to prohibit airlines from access to stolen passports.
I wonder if there is a way to find out if our gov’t uses that list and makes it abailable to all airlines.

wow that is one dumb policy
and seems likely the terrorists, whoever they were, likely knew that and took advantage of it

Flying into Moscow in the mid 1980's was like that too. You go into a glass booth with mirrors behind you, the guy looks you up/down all over, makes a few calls, taps on the computer, asks more questions, and eventually lets you in.

Which reminds me of the old joke:

A Chinese man with the name Sean O’Grady was asked how he acquired such a moniker.

He said that the guy in front of him at Ellis Island was named Sean O’Grady.

When his turn came, he said his name was Sam Ting...

When you get to Israel they ask you some more questions, and my Mom is an Israeli citizen and they still bombarded her with questions..when you get to the airport you can’t even get into the country until you answer some more questions, like why are you there, and how long are you staying, who are you staying with, questions like that..my sister when she first went to Israel to meet her husband’s family for the first time, they interrogated her at the airport for over an hour, took her into a room and asked her everything under the sun, she still was able to board the flight but still their security its the best in the world nothing compares to it

There was info that the two people traveling on bogus passports had booked that flight to Europe; and Beijing was just a stop, thereby not needing a visa for China or additional scrutiny. - tom

Well that debris field gives clear evidence of an accidental explosion of fuel vapor in a near-empty fuel tank set off by some random short-circuit in an electrical device.

Case settled.

I was through there many times in the 90s and it was a piece of cake. Though the airport was in very sad shape until the late 90’s.

FWIW: Italian man Luigi Maraldi reveals how his passport used on flight MH370 was stolen in bizarre circumstances in Thailand Quote:

"Mr Maraldi revealed how he arrived in Phuket on March 1 last year for a two-week holiday, but lost his passport in a deal gone wrong at a Patong motorcycle rent shop, Phuket Wan Tourism News reported.

He said the woman at the shop had told him she gave his passport to another man who said Mr Maraldi was his “husband” and he was only able to return home using a temporary travel document.

He said he only learned of the Malaysian Airlines plane going missing when his family called to check whether he was the same Luigi Maraldi that Italian officials told them had been on the flight.

Malaysia Airlines flight missing: Passengers under investigation Quote:
>"Malaysia’s transport minister says an investigation has been launched to determine the identities of four people on the missing Malaysia Airlines jet who were traveling with stolen passports or suspicious papers."
The linked article continues: "The U.S. is sending a team of experts to help with the investigation into the missing aircraft. U.S. officials say they are still looking at the disappearance as if it is an accident, but Malaysian officials say they are not ruling anything out."
