Dewhurst is fighting for his political legacy after presiding over the Texas Senate for 11 years. In that role, he has chosen committee leaders, controlled the legislative agenda and maintained the Texas Senate's clubby atmosphere that keeps the wheels of government turning.
But after his loss to Ted Cruz in the 2012 GOP primary race for the U.S. Senate, Dewhurst has tacked hard to the right. He has talked more about banning almost all abortions and even appointed Patrick to chair one of the Senate's most power committees, public education.
Patrick, meanwhile, focused on passing abortion restrictions and expanding the number of charter schools in Texas, while unsuccessfully pushing for tougher laws regarding illegal immigration.
Patrick scored big with 41 percent of the vote to the incumbent's 28 percent in a four-way race. Two other conservative candidates, both former lawmakers who serve as elected commissioners for major state agencies, shared 29 percent of the vote.

Some like to delude themselves that Texas is moving left. Its just not true by any measure. More and more conservatives are moving to the state. I’m perfectly happy with the idea of the Unite States of Texas and I’m sure a good number of other states would love to join in.

I agree in general they are relative low turnout but this one has a little different
make up in that five of the top statewide office holders are in runoffs (four of the
five aren’t incumbents}. So that may make for a slightly elevated turnout. But if
Patrick can get his voters to the polls he should win.
Statewide races include the following:
Lieutenant Governor
Attorney General
Comptroller of Public Accounts - Hegar got 49.99%
Commissioner of Agriculture
Railroad Commissioner
Harvey Hilderbran has withdrawn so there will not be a runof in the Comptroller’s race.

Sadly that is not true. Folks that did not vote in the primary may vote in the run off so anything can happen. I thought you had to vote in the primary to vote in the runoff. That would be the smart way to hold a runoff. But I have been informed that the runoff is open to any Texas voter. Rats hate Patrick so I expect a lot of rat voters showing up May 27

When the run off elections start, vote. Drive people to the polls and ask them to vote.
Buy people beer and drive them to the polls.
It is time we get serious. Primary votes count 10x the general election votes. Run off votes count 100x.

Not precisely accurate. Dems who voted in the Dem primary can NOT vote in the Republican run off. If they didn't bother to vote in the Dem primary, they CAN vote in the Republican run off.
So the most motivated and/or easily bought Dems are off the table at this point. And I don't think Dewhurst would want to risk getting caught paying off the Black preachers.
Should be multiple locations in larger counties.

The voter turnout in a run-off is miniscule. Every vote counts x10. I would urge all Texas residents to vote for Dan Patrick
