Georgia State Senator Admits To Holding Bill Hostage

Gwinnett County State Senator and chairman of the Health and Human Service Committee Renee Unterman openly admitted to holding 'Haleigh's Hope', HB 885 sponsored by Representative Allen Peake, hostage until the State House will consider bills that she has authored.

WSB reporter Lori Geary asked Unterman point blank if this were the case, and to Unterman's credit, she did not deny it and was very candid in saying that she was. But then she went on to state that the parents of the kids who can benefit from the legalization of medicinal cannabis didn't understand how it works in the General Assembly and that everything in there is all politics.

Frankly, attaching a catchy name to a bill for a child and expecting everyone to fall all over for it because of that seems a little odd. I went to the link and mainly saw about how this legislator was confronted, and she admitted that she was holding it up (for study, etc.).

Medical marijuana for kids. Is that what this is about? There’s not much there there IMO. And, I’d hold it up too to find out more about the bill.

It’s not so much a catchy name as what is in the bill. Medicinal cannabis that is administered via vapor or oil is the main thing at debate. The benefits of this are that according to several cases in Colorado, seizures on these kids go down significantly. Haleigh Cox is having over 100 seizures per day so any help would be significant.

What seems to have caused you to excerpt your own blog?

What causes you to be concerned?

I don't care for blogpimps using Free Republic as an advertising tool to get blog hits.

I've answered your question, care to take a stab at mine?

Quite honestly I’m not trying to get blog hits. I’m trying to help a little girl who has 100 seizures per day get back to a normal life.

The dopeheads that think “liberty” is all about getting high and having their trust fund money to spend on hookers think it’s a great idea.

I don’t know anything about it, really. I’d just say the bill needs to be wholly considered and not rushed through on an emotional basis. Based on what I’ve seen, there really hasn’t been an open discussion of it.

I don’t know how to make the video link through here. Just easier to excerpt it.

Hmph. It should just be put out to vote on. There’s no doubt it’ll be voted down. GA is one the last states you’ll see medical marijuana in.
