Sergei Aksyonov, the pro-Russian Prime Minister of Crimea who is driving the region toward secession from Ukraine, is at the center of an international crisis. But little is known about a man who rose from obscurity in the space of a month and who some claim is a former gangster nicknamed the 'Goblin'
A month ago, when Ukraine’s old regime was just starting to crack under the pressure of a revolution, few people in the country had ever heard of Sergei Aksyonov. He was then a marginal figure even in the local politics of the region of Crimea. His Russian Unity party had only three seats in the regional legislature and no representation anywhere else. But that has not stopped him from taking charge. In late January, as the protesters in Kiev began seizing government buildings, Aksyonov started to form an army on the Crimean peninsula. Now he is the de facto leader of the entire region, a post that has thrust him into the center of the most dire political crisis Europe has confronted in years.

1) It has the support of the Ukrainian people. 2) It's temporary until new elections, which will be had soon. Considering Moscow's hand in organized crime, the gangster in Crimea is likely a FSB agent too.

I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. OK, maybe the worst one.
How did the present American president come to power? Do you think there was any voter fraud perpetrated in the last election? Several precincts in Philadelphia and Cleveland reported 100% voting for Obama. How does that work? How did the present healthcare act come to be? Was parliamentary procedure followed to the letter, or was there some underhandedness?
Where does the constitution allow the president to change certain aspects of certain laws when it suits his political aims? Which clause allows the president and the attorney-general to decide which laws to enforce? I could go on.
I know nothing of this Aksyonov. He may be a thug and a criminal. I believe a case could be made that your president is cut from the same cloth.

That doesn’t sound very good
The Crimea is traditionally Russian. It was GIVEN to the Ukraine by Khrushchev in 54 (Khrushchev was Ukranian) and Russia retaking it now is basically just reality setting back in. The real fun starts when Serbian tanks roll back into Kosovo.
Or when China attacks Taiwan.
That’s not a reasonable analogy. A better analogy (some lunatic(s) taking a piece of property away from its rightful owners and giving it to somebody else) is Kosovo, which also figures to get set straight in the near future.

Don’t forget the Party Of Regions collapsed and basically opened up a huge space to Russian nationalists.
And they copied the same tactics as the Ukrainian nationalists did in Kiev. But the West favors one sie and is against the other side because the latter is not on its side.
Sergei Aksyonov would not be Crimea’s Prime Minister in a normal time but this isn’t a normal time. Not bad for someone who last year was a marginal figure in Crimean politics.
The Maidan gave him his opportunity and he took full advantage of it - to facilitate Crimea’s accession to the Russian Federation.
The manner in which Crimea has been taken back is also traditionally Russian. The Russians are also using traditional means to move north from Crimea into territory favoring the Ukraine and into the eastern Ukraine at Donetsk.
I don't recall anyone marching into the Ukrainian parliament with grenade launchers and having themselves made Prime Minister. I must have missed that.
So what’s worse...the govt coup in Crimea with guns & terror? It the ”quiet coup” of the USA since 2008. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones :-/
