MH370 detected above Malacca Straits at 2.40am

The search for Malaysian Airlines MH307 plane has been expanded to Sumatran waters, north of Straits of Malacca, as military radar may have detected the missing plane in the vicinity of Pulau Perak.

A Berita Harian report today quoted the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) as saying the plane may have reversed course further than expected while on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Air Force chief Rodzali Daud ( left ) is quoted as saying that based on military radar readings from its station in Butterworth, MH370 may have turned west after Kota Bahru and flew past the east coast and Kedah.

"The last time the plane was detected was near Pulau Perak, in the Straits of Malacca, at 2.40am," Berita Harian quotes Rodzali as saying.

This contradicts with earlier reports that the aircraft had disappeared from radar screens 120 nautical miles off Kota Bharu and over the South China Sea, at 1.30am on March 8.

The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) had previously said the search for the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, which is missing for the fourth day, had previously been focused around the waters between East Malaysia and Vietnam.

I don't know if this is a language issue or what:

09.30 Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, Malaysian civil aviation chief, said earlier that the widened search includes northern parts of the Malacca Strait, on the opposite side of the Malay Peninsula and far west of the plane's last known location. Mr Azharuddin would not explain why crews were searching there, saying rather cryptically, "There are some things that I can tell you and some things that I can't."

Perhaps the two Iranians are gay. Homosexuality in Muslim countries is a crime punishable by imprisonment, corporal punishment, or execution.

I believe the Malaysian Airline and Malaysian govt know way more than they are say which is why the poor suffering families are so livid.

“So the authorities knew of this when exactly?”

> mobile phones were connecting when called by relatives

No, just simply wishful thinking. If a lost cellphone was active, it could easily be located when it transmits its ack.

You don’t “hear” the target phone ring, you hear what the electronics in the phone system uses to denote a “ring.”

Well, I’m now adding another (although VERY remote) possibility to my list of possibilities-—the plane may have been shot down by the Malaysian air force.

Well yes, but why? This is a standard air route. Why would they select one single plane to destroy?

It is not conspiracy insanity to suggest that NO TRACE could mean that it did NOT crash/blow up/disintegrate, etc.

It is the lesser likelihood, but it is in the realm of the possible. If, as everyone says, we shouldn’t ignore any possibility, then that is a possibility that’s on the list of possibilities that should not be ignored.

If such a shoot down actually would have occurred, it may most likely have been accidental. Humans screw up.

But I don’t think a “shoot down” is anything but the remotest possibility.

Per the Telegraph (UK)(quote seems to be from my link above) - Malaysian authorities CAN NOT say why they are expanding search area.

IF the Malaysian Air Force knew that the plane had been hijacked, they very well could have shot it down if they suspected it would be crashed(911 style)into some other location.

This is what I was thinking too, but didn’t know for sure if it was most or all phones. Also if they’re out of range, no antenna nearby, terrain, etc.

Ditto...the Boeing 777 is equipped with a messaging that continuously (and automatically) feeds information on the aircraft and its systems. Those messages should be in the possession of the airlines and crash investigators.

When the Air France flight crashed over the South Atlantic, the Airbus was still transmitting data to its maintenance base until just before it hit the water. As I understand it, the system will keep working until it loses power or its battery back-up. Obviously, if there was a massive explosion at altitude, the transmissions would end suddenly, but even that type of event provides some clues.
