It seems only fair to post Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s response to the foofaraw started by the quote I posted about below [1]. McConnell tells my friends over at Truth Revolt [2] that he is not attacking the Tea Party at all. Rather he feels that the Senate Conservatives Fund is a fake, pretending to support conservatism while undermining it. Here’s the quote:
I’ve always been and continue to be a big supporter of the Tea Party and the conservative change it’s bringing to Washington. One of the biggest obstacles to that change, however, is the Senate Conservatives Fund, a rogue political operation that has co-opted the Liberty movement for its own enrichment to the detriment of the conservative cause. This is a point that I have been making repeatedly and energetically over the past several months, because in my view this group has deceived a lot of good people. They claim to share our goals but undermine them at every turn. I think they should be stopped, and I don’t mind saying so.
This needs to be taken seriously because A) Ann Coulter suggested as much in the talk with Sean Hannity [3] I posted about earlier and B) it’s plausible someone would do that for any number of reasons.
The original New York Times story [4] in which McConnell said he was going to crush the opposition made it seem the senator was making a “move to stamp out challenges from the right,” as the headline said. But McConnell’s argument is instead that these challenges are fakes. That doesn’t necessarily mean the primary candidate himself is fake, but it could mean he’s been put in play for reasons of pure profit or even to aid the Democrats. As I mentioned, McConnell has a fight on his hands in the main election.
There are things that McConnell has done that I disagree with strongly, but he is definitely NOT a RINO — that’s just unfair. The American Conservative Union [5] routinely ranks him near the top but, if that’s too swishy for you, the Heritage Action for America [6] scorecard gives him an 80 percent, which may not be Ivory Conservative Soap, but it’s pretty good, especially from HAA. I mean, again as I said in my first post, no one should be primarying the guy. If you’re really going to be messing with Republicans at this crisis moment, primary someone in the John McCain (43%) range. Better yet, save your fire for the party that single-handedly brought you ObamaCare.
Anyway, McConnell should’ve been clearer in his original statement, but perhaps I should blame the way the Times played it. In any case, we really do have to try not to be stupid. There are two halves to the circle in a circular firing squad. One half is made of politicians without principle, the other is made of voters without good sense. Leftists claim their good intentions justify their crappy results. Republican voters don’t have that luxury.
So McConnell isn’t a RINO because of the ranking of a CINO organization like the ACU. Such perfect logic. Keep circling the wagons, GOP-e supporters.
How’s his voting record on issues like defense, taxes, abortion, gay marriage and court judges?
What about the guy who enabled its funding through cave-in after cave-in? Here's a hint: his name is McConnell.
Deeds, not words, are what are important.
He's not being primaried because of his voting scorecard, he's being primaried because of his failure of leadership.
Even if McConnell was an ace conservative, right on every point, which he is not, he is still pond scum as minority leader, and certainly as majority leader, for the simple reason he has no leadership skills whatsoever, no imagination whatsoever. He is backbencher material, and at best, a good foot soldier.
What is needed is a strong majority leader of the Senate who can deal behind the scenes AND lead the Senate and talk to Patriotic Conservative Americans.
Well Mitch, when you say “Tea Party bullies need a punch in the nose”, it’s amazing how many people think you are talking about the Tea party.
He's as limp as a wet dishrag. He's weak. That's why.
Mitch is running scared.
As I’ve pointed out since I arrived at FR January of 2004 the RINO’s have been redefining “Conservatism” to their perspective, and this is what McConnell is addressing, the new perspective as defined by the “moderates”, “RINO’s”, “GOP-e”, whatever you wish to call them. I call them stealth Leftists in spite of the fact they are about as stealthy as a Sherman Tank.
Regardless they ain’t us.
McConnell is a deceptive voter in the US Senate. He votes very carefully so he can say “look at my record” while he works behind the scenes to undermine conservatives and conservatism, to destroy conservatives, to get moderates elected, to protect moderate incumbents, and to assist the democrats in getting their agenda through.
He’s fooling nobody but these type of article writers.

HorseHockey! There's not a dimes worth of difference between the Tea Party Movement and the Senate Conservatives Fund! The movement or SCF wouldn't exist if the Republican leadership were doing their job and Mitchell was as conservative as he pretends to be.

My what a thin reed (or is it Reid?) to hold on to mitch. You love the Tea Party but hate the SCF(?!) [who only exists because you aren't pushing the agenda of the Tea Party Movement]! I think Tea Party voters are smarter than you think and those ACU rankings include a lot of your "show votes".
Face it Mitch, you are the biggest obstacle to the conservative change the Tea Party Movement wants to bring to Washington.

Soooooo....did I miss it when McConnell stood with Ted Cruz, who was obviously right in calling for the delay of ObamaCare? Did I miss his stirring speech praising Cruz and Mike Lee for their fine presentation of the conservative concerns about this medical train wreck? Did he admonish McLame for calling Cruz and Lee “wacko birds, “ like the senile old goat did from the floor of the Senate? If he did all these fine things, then we should believe him now.
Liar? Such a harsh word.
Now dissembling, prevaricating, misstating, or simply omitting some various arrays of factual material, that is OK, and if people are supposed to be civil, then not everything should be open to discussion.
Those disruptive characters that insist of bringing up all these uncomfortable facets of the daily assaults on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (code word for “private property”), are just supposed to shut up and sit down. No fair criticizing your betters, after all.
“Fairness” is a concept that pretty largely disappears about the time a person enters kindergarten.
Except in the minds of the school hierarchy. Not that it applies to them, but only insofar as it applies to classroom rules.
MM must have figured out that he stepped on his crank.
Can someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to recall a story where McConnell and some others sent some bully-boys over the the SCF offices and told De Mint to get out and that they were taking over.
I also seem to recall that the reason they failed is that a talk show host called up McConnell and told him that the whole story was going to be broadcast on his nationwide show if McConnell and his ‘boys’ didn’t back off of their attempted takeover of the SCF.
This makes me wonder about the motivations of many people on FR who are shouting RINO! RINO! RINO ! every 2 minutes.
It wouldn’t take much to destroy the Tea Party movement from within and shouting RINO!has become a way to say “Im a REAL conservative” on this site.
