Young Republicans Find Fault With Elders on List of Social Issues
NY Times ^ | March 10, 2014 | Jonathan Martin

It was difficult to miss Ian Jacobson at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Known as Rooster, he was 33, with an ample beard, earrings and a towering orange-and-aqua spiked Mohawk haircut. But he also sported a pinstriped suit, French cuffs and a natty contrast collar.

Mr. Jacobson’s sartorial contradictions matched those of his politics: He is among the young Republicans who are pro-free market on fiscal issues and libertarian on social ones. While his views represent a potential growth wing for a party that is losing among other demographic groups, they also show an emerging tension with the older social conservatives at the core of the party’s base.

Will there ever be a point in the future where the GOP will decide keeping SoCons is not worth losing these type of Millenial voters? It seems given the demographics, SoCons are older, that day is a possibility.

That's because older conservatives aren't dumb enough to be fooled by liberals masquerading as conservatives.

If you ain't a so-con, you ain't no-con.

There are many of us out here (I’m 34) who champion social conservatism in the vein of our Founders. Not all of us want social moderation, and there’s a growing cadre of us who espouse Christian conservatism in the same way our Founders saw it as necessary and critical to our foundational elements.

Cute. You know. They bring change and yet have not faced the real change that real life is going to do on them.

The arrogance is unbelievable.

My bet is these people have zero humility, consideration or character to defend the shed blood of the past, let alone their political beliefs (not withstanding oxymoronics). Like liberals of the past praising divorce all of a sudden attacking anyome mocking a homosexual marriage.

The elite must be laughing hard at these morons made to feel happy dressed like clowns living lives of clown, simply because the Fed Reserve gave them false money.

The problem is the “all or nothing” form of today’s politics.

The idea of not voting for someone because of one stance on one issue is a little short sited.

So the libertarian Republican voted for Obama because of Mitt’s social views?

What good is it to have a made up family when the D’s have trashed the economy so bad that you can’t feed them?

Guess that is America’s future. Go to hell and truly become the next Sodom And Gomorrah. What a future. Hope you all have a great time. Drink, eat and be merry. Anyone can whatever he or she wants. Play with your ‘ipod’ and people no longer matter.

Pond Pirates who are not seeing the Tsunami waves about to engulf them and their wicked pond lives.

The Devil tests the souls but God’s test is more salient.

“I want us to return to our roots,” Mr. Jacobson said while attending the conference over the weekend. A self-described “libertarian-leaning Republican” from San Antonio, he sketched out his ideal political party as one that freed individuals to chart their own course in their personal and professional lives.

This young one seems not to realize one of the roots of the Republican besides Free Soil was forbidding Utah to become a state as long as polygamy was legal. Both slavery and polygamy were called " "twin relics of barbarism."

Indeed... if there was one issue of rally it would be gun control.

It seems even there the single issue voters have their heads up their heinies.

No, what this is is propaganda and embrace of it. Purges will follow once their firmly stupidly adopted language will be discarded for other uses.

Indeed, before God acts, there will be many changes in languages... and those whose body is stuck with it will be truly obsolete and discarded. These people are robot and only repeat the feel good crap they were fed.

I personally have no desire to live in a Sodom and Gomorrah which just happens to have a free market economic system.

This republic will be dead long before that. I’ve said time and time again, the party would stand to gain more votes by droping fiscal issues than social ones. Just embrace welfare and outbid Democrats. What’s the difference. These potheads want a second DemoRat party.

The idea of not voting for someone because of one stance on one issue is a little short sited.

Of course it is but some issues are of more importance to others. On the other hand both conservatives and libertarians need to be able to compromise on lesser issues. For instance drug legalization. I'm not a fan of drug legalization but I would be OK with decriminalization primarily because it wouldn't grow government.

Another issue is the great many who are hard left liberals who are simply and knowingly lying. They go to GOP events and pimp their liberalism and run right out and vote straight democrat ticket. I've got a militant far left lesbian cousin who calls herself GOPproud and hates conservatives.

I once heard someone on the radio say that Libertarians are nothing more than confused Liberals. I don’t remember who. I know it wasn’t Rush.

Isn't this the proof of the total breakdown of America that we discuss, and now we see that the left is totally successful.

This idiot likes conservative economics, but he has been so dumbed down, that he doesn't understand that social liberalism makes them impossible. He doesn't know what gave us big government and welfare, and socialism in the first place.

Libertariansm/social liberalism, creates more voters for the left, not more Evangelical voters, it has been working for the left, for 60 years.

Social conservatism is important. America has lost its way because it lost its morals. Social conservatism helps (or should-have-helped, anyways) defend those morals.

Any young moron who is not a homosexual but would discount voting for a conservative because of queer marriage is not someone I want in the party anyway. Useless idiots.

There is a whole range of libertarians but there are some who are just lying liberals that have figured out that the GOP is so desperate to pander to them that they’ll do or say anything for the false belief that they’ll get their votes.

Its social anarchy that breeds poverty! And that in turn gives us the welfare state. This rooster degenerate needs to cut his hair and go back to the Daily Paul

A while back on “How the states got their shapes” on the history channel they quizzed a college republican (Male) and a college liberal (female).

When asked about gay marriage the liberal was obviously for it the “young Republican” said he wants same sex marriage someday because he hopes to get married himself.

Obviously a major part of the problem is the state run indoctrination centers.
