GOP hopeful said vote for Mitt Romney was vote for 'tyranny'

A year before launching his Republican U.S. Senate campaign, Greg Brannon urged people not to vote for the party’s presidential nominee, saying a vote for Mitt Romney would “advance tyranny.”

Brannon also said Romney and President Barack Obama, a Democrat, “despise the Constitution,” as he minimized the differences between the two major parties.

The comments came in a blog that Brannon co-wrote on the website of Founders’ Truth, a group he helped found.

The Cary physician is one of eight Republicans vying in a May 6 primary to challenge Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan. In January he acknowledged not voting for Romney, his party’s last presidential nominee.

Brannon, 53, is standing by his statements.

“I’m a lifelong Republican who firmly believes that we will continue to lose elections if we don’t nominate candidates who will stand on principle,” he said in a statement. “Moderate Republicans have given us out-of-control spending, unsustainable debt and bigger government. Enough is enough.”

It was at a January forum in Winston-Salem that Brannon mentioned not voting for Romney, saying he had supported abortion rights. Romney once supported abortions but said as president he would sign legislation banning them. “You cannot ever waver on life,” Brannon said at the forum.

He used stronger language in the June 2012 post.

“Voters need to vote in light of the obvious truth that no substantial difference exists between Barack Hussein Obama and Willard ‘Mitt’ Romney,” he wrote. “Understanding and applying this simple truth is liberating.

Lets be honest. 1/3 of Freepers vowed not to vote for Romney, and didnt’. I mean, I did vote for the guy, but after the crap that followed, I refuse to vote for Jeb or Krispy in 2016.

When it comes to Brannon, I’m more concerned with how he’s going to vote in the senate and what is clear is that on EVERY big stand we took last year, he would have been there alongside our guys. Tillis would have been scheming with Mitch.

That’s exactly right. We not only have to get more republicans in the senate, and especially more conservatives, but also conservatives who WILL NOT vote for McConnell (or Cornyn or Alexander for that matter) for leader (should he be reelected).

And you are saying Republican socialism is better than Democrat socialism. Cuz we know THEY are bad and the Pubbies are for US. That too can be characterized as Idiotic.

Your line of reasoning is no longer effective. Romney would have moved the political football toward the progressive goal post. I will only vote for candidates with a record of moving the ball toward the conservative goalpost.

Sarah Palin has such a record. Newt Gingrich has that record. If those remaining in the democrat lite want to win elections, they must field better candidates.

There was ample warning both on FR and other news outlets that conservatives would not vote for a man who ran to the left of Ted Kennedy. Democrats voting in open primary states stuffed the northeast progressive down our throats, over vociferous complaints.

McConnell has stated plainly he intends to crush conservatives, that they ‘wont have a nominee in a single race’. Here’s a chance to slug Mitch in the face.

This guy is the real deal. He was my OB-GYN when I lived in Raleigh.

I walked into his office and I saw a copy of Liberal Fascism sitting behind his desk. I knew then, I was in good hands.

Anyhow, I can't say enough good things about him. If you are in Raleigh--you should crawl over broken glass to vote for this man.

So what’s the problem? Is telling the truth somehow wrong?

Welcome to Acirema. Is your flag upside down yet? Why not?

Because Barack Obama is such a Pro-Liberty, small government, principled Jeffersonian statesman.

I had planned on supporting Brannon but the more I read about and hear statements like these, the more I am looking around for a better choice.

I will type slowly so that you might have a chance to understand it. Your assumption is just utterly absurd and infantile and not sure why I waste my time with you….but I think my analogy was stage one cancer versus stage four cancer.

Now only an abject idiot would find the term “better” in that analogy. Less deadly, less decisive, less rapidly perhaps….but again, no triple digit IQ could ever derive “better” out of that.

Cancer kills. Socialism kills. Rapid cancer kills before you have a chance to turn it around. Slower cancers allow you a shot, maybe a good one or maybe a long one, but at least a shot to turn it around.

got brain yet?

Any cancer causing or supporting vector is to be avoided. ANY.

An enemy (cancer) in friendly disguise is just as deadly, slow moving or not. Romney is just as much an enemy, and just as deadly as Obama. Best t you would endorse him. Which, in a way, makes him even deadlier.

Your snide remarks aside, it is telling that you justify having voted for an enemy of freedom because you believe he would be slower at removing our freedoms. Even though he has demonstrated that HE IS THE SAME ANIMAL as Obama, just not quite as rabid.

If not being able to recognize evil, even if it has an “R” in front, constitutes “having brain” to you, then I don’t. And gladly so. You go ahead and support your “R” bearing Marxists if that makes you feel better.

But your choices were cancer…period…..not my choice, but I deal with reality. You can luxuriate in the purity of your own irrelevance if you want to.

not my choice, but I deal with reality.

On the contrary, voting for the guy on the pretense that he would be "better" than Obama, was dealing with wishful thinking.

Gumby and I and many others -- enough to have made sure the bastard lost -- are the ones dealing with reality: voting for tyranny CAN ONLY increase tyranny.

We refuse to allow fear and desperation to make us vote against our own interests. You don't.

Wow -- Vinnie, Republicans with attitudes like Brannon's are our only way out of this mess!!! Have you ever heard of Einstein's definition of insanity?

It is time for Republicans to stop holding their noses and to start HEEDING them instead.

If he equated Romney and Obama, he is a nutball with little grasp on reality.

What Obama was or is, doesn't alter the fact that Romney was -- and IS -- one hundred percent Leftist on every single major issue: nationalized health care, the gay agenda, abortion, global warming, gun control, and activist judges. You can look it up. I have. Voting for statist tyranny is voting for statist tyranny no matter WHAT the Democrat oponent is. THAT is reality, a reality that many, many people are too faint-hearted to acknowledge.

Cymbaline and everyone else who voted for Romney, I know you can tell me all about what you were voting "against" when you pulled the lever for him.

Is there a single one of you who can tell me what you were voting FOR?
