Starbucks' baristas are about to get a digital bump in their paychecks -- the coffee chain's updated iPhone app will allow customers to make a tip when paying with their phones.

The new version of the app, due out March 19, will give customers a choice between no tip, 50 cents, $1 or $2 when checking out. They can add the tip up to two hours after they make the purchase.

I can see tipping a waitress running back and forth from the kitchen, but tipping someone who simply hands you a drink? An expensive one at that!

No way in hell.

If it’s just coffee you want, sure. Some folks appreciate the
small luxury of a shop.

I have a tip for Starbucks: How about heating up your decaf? Twice I ordered decaf and twice it was cold.

Haven’t been back since. Overpriced and underwhelming.

I’ve never been a fan of Starbucks coffee. But the other night I was in Kroger’s, and a coffee craving hit. It’s been years since I’ve had Starbucks, so I said, what the heck, I’ll give them another try.

It was a waste of money. The stuff still tastes like it was brewed yesterday and then burned. Plus, they use paper cups in their zeal to protect the enviiiiiiiironment, so the stuff goes cold quickly. I couldn’t finish the nasty stuff.

If I’m out and about, I’ll stick with Dunkin’ Donuts in the good old styrofoam cup. Even better, we brew up Dunkin’ at home and do it STRONG.

They can design fancy electronics to “encourage” more tips from the sheeple...
but
they still can’t (or won’t) put any taste into their coffee.

(Hint: try Peet’s coffee if you have one nearby...)

The point is tax free income. Welcome to the Amerika were everyone will have two jobs. One that finances the “gimme dat” crowd and another that finances you and yours.

I think McD’s food “blows” too (it causes me to instantly barf)

but they are also have a 100 Billion dollar market cap, a 35% Return on Equity, and profits of over 10 Billion dineros per annum.

perhaps the masses of sheeple have been so dumbed down that they support everything that’s defective and of low quality ... (including such as certain politicians we could name?)

Anybody recall the “jobs” scam that Howard Schultz established by placing receptacles in Starbucks stores that encouraged customers to place $5 in order to help with obama’s supposed program to create jobs for Americans?

Did Schultz ever make available an audit of the money collected and its distribution?

Why do I suspect he didn’t? Oh, yeah, he’s a democrat.

$2 for a cup of coffee and free wi-fi in a nice environment is a great deal! I love to go there when I have a little time on my hands.

GOtta agree with you there. The vast majority of SB coffee tastes burned to me. I think they over roast everything but their 'blonde' roasts.

I roast my own. I have an Ethiopian Harrar that is really excellent. It almost tastes like a flavored coffee, it has such a complex flavor to it.  Even though green beans are cheaper than pre-roasted beans, you don't really save any money, because a good roaster isn't cheap. However, if you want really good, fresh coffee, it's the way to go. Also, green coffee will keep for 3 or more years.

No different than tipping the bartender. Maybe, you don't do that, either. Up to you.
