Gazans bombard southern Israel in massive rocket attack
The Times of Israel ^ | 3-12-14 | Adiv Sterman

Dozens of rockets as well as mortar rounds were fired from the Gaza Strip Wednesday at southern Israeli towns. Hours later the IDF fired tank shells at what it termed “terror targets” in the Strip.

Israeli reports put the number of rockets at over 60, and Islamic Jihad, which took responsibility for the attack, said it had fired 90 rockets at Israel. The organization said in a statement that it had launched an ongoing “military operation,” which it termed “Breaking the Silence.”

No Israeli casualties were initially reported in the largest attack from the Strip since Operation Pillar of Defense in late 2012.

Most of the rockets fell in open areas, though one rocket landed in the center of Sderot. In all, damage was reported in two impact sites.

Four consecutive alarms were heard by residents of Sderot as well as the nearby Eshkol Regional Council. Residents throughout the entire region were instructed to remain in protected areas. Explosions were heard in Sderot, Netivot and surrounding areas.

Some of the rockets were reported to have been launched from the east Gaza City neighborhood of Shuja’iyya.

IAF jets were reportedly flying over the Strip, apparently

And pushing the people there into the Sinai.

I'd take a lesson from Iran's intention to Israelis, and push for pushing Gazans in a somewhat different direction. Northwest, about 50 miles should do.

I recalled the nutcase Benjamin chick was going to be there and just assumed the ragheads would put on a show-and-tell for her. This must be it.

Ariel Sharon gave the gazas more of a break than they ever deserved. They took the opportunity and, true to form, peed all over it.

I’ve always felt the Israeli’s shortcoming in Gaza is not making it expensive for them, the gazas, to shoot a rocket. I’ve pretty much felt that each rocket should cost the gazas about 100 yards of Israeli frontage. The only thing these 12th century dunderheads respond to is overwhelming force and loss of land.

Firing those tank guns as well as the 155’s flat out at whatever low rent piece of rabkrap is in the next 100 yards should be a low cost way of clearing space to move the fence back——once for ech rocket. The Gazans need a “come to allah” moment when they realize there is no future, and it ain’t funny or cute, to take cheap shots at Israel.

Why did it take 'hours'?..............It should have been minutes.................

I’m surprised the Israelis don’t have radar-guided return-fire artillery. Even better would be semi-sentient AUTOMATED radar-guided return-fire artillery.

The Israelis should fight back with trigonometry.

Specifically with unmanned surveillance balloons they could have extensive real time observation of the vast majority of the Strip.

And then they could use even more trigonometry, when they detect Paleos setting up mortar and rocket positions, to stick artillery rounds in their ear before they can even launch.

I would go a step further with a bit of wit. In that the Paleos have no problem with using human shields to protect their launch sites, the Israelis could respond by crafting air burst artillery rounds that contain high expansion anti-riot “sticky foam”.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sticky_foam

Sticky foam is a goo that when it lands on people or objects becomes a very gummy, sticky substance that soon hardens and is a major pain to remove. A relatively small amount of it can immobilize a person, and getting it off equipment, in this case mortars and rocket tubes, is several hours of hard work. And if they try to fire that weapon, the round will blow up in the tube.

No, before Israel retaliates, send Kerry to the east Gaza City neighborhood of Shuja’iyya (heh, heh).

“I see on Breitbart that crazy Iran is saying their hand is on the trigger to destroy Israel. I can’t help but wonder if this missing jet is going to show up, equipped with a bomb.”

And Israel should mention to the Palis that any rockets or missiles fired at Israel from anywhere that has a trajectory pointing at Gaza or the West Bank will not be shot down by the Israelis. That includes Iran WMD.

Keep reminding tha Palis that an Iranian nuke hitting Israel will more than likely wipe out the Palestinian people. They may want to dwell on that for awhile.

Unless Israel want's to govern Gaza, it probably doesn't make sense to retake it. Killing terrorists works, who knows, one day there may be a joint operation of some sort with Egypt, maybe serving as the anvil in the Sinai. But I doubt Egypt want's Gaza either. Obama would give it to the Brotherhood.

I'd support "Operation Restoring the Silence", which would involve driving every last Arab squatter out of Gaza.

They do, can even do counter fire against mortars. That’s why the terrorists fire from amongst the civilian population. Same problem we have with drones. No one ever blames the terrorists for dead civilians.

I think the Palis make a point of firing from things like the roof of a school, just to ensure that any counter-fire will cause lots of children casualties.
