So am I. And I'm as conservative as conservative gets. Enforcing pot laws are a huge drain on our government. I hate our government, so if we can starve the beast I'm all for it. Because in the end WE pay for the enforcement.

Let personal choice, responsibility and the consequences that come with smoking/eating play out with Darwin's theory.

You know until just recently, I was like many other freepers dead set against marijuana, but since Colorado and Washington I decide to look intently into the issue, information on the history of cannabis, made me see how if it were not for gov’t control this issue would not even exist.

I have an idea : take all the confiscated high grade ganja and keep attaching it to balloons and float it to North Korea , Iran , Syria and any other place where it is desirable for the people to chill out , calm down and start developing ‘Liberal’ tendencies

Gee, how was that "calling people names" thing again?

Yeah, you're right...I should cozy up to these guys and fool myself into thinking they are the kind of "friends" I want to have around me.

Since you seem so sure that supporting the Federal drug war is the only acceptable position for a conservative, perhaps you can point me out the section in the Constitution that authorizes it?

I’ve yet to see a single “conservative” drug warrior on FR that can answer that question.

Punish any crimes committed under the influence of drugs criminals. Fixed it for you. Some may remember what gov't IS instituted for: protecting our Liberty and Rights. Sad to see so few whom do NOT on this, supposed, (C) 'site.

Cell phone use causes even more crashes. Obviously, banning cell phones is the only “conservative” thing to do, right?

What drug cartels were there in 1900? You know, back when a person could get anything they wanted without anyone’s permission. I know photography wasn’t as advanced back then, but I can’t seem to find even one picture of the zombie apocalypse that america must have been with every drug under the sun being totally legal to have and consume. Of course those were savage times under a constitutional republic where a constitutional amendment was required to ban any kind of drug. But now under our living, breathing document, conservatives and liberals can look back on those times when people were foolish enough to live as free people.

" It will only get worse."

I have no doubt it will, whether drugs are legal or not. Though I personally refrain from using illegal drugs and alcohol,(except for maybe an occasional drink with dinner)as screwed up our country has become, just about everyone will have to be 'on something' just to somewhat tolerate it. lol

“isn’t it basically just like beer and whiskey?”

I wouldn’t say “just like” those. It gets compared to alcohol a lot because they have some similar effects, but they are both pretty unique drugs in a class by themselves (as opposed to most intoxicants, which you can group as stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, opiates, etc because they all have very similar effects).

I would say that alcohol is a less intoxicating drug when used in moderation, but it is very quickly more intoxicating once you cross that threshold. You can black out (still awake and active but with no memory), lose all motor control, or even die from drinking too much alcohol, but if you smoke too much marijuana, you will not suffer effects nearly that bad.

On the other hand, regular marijuana use, even if it is moderate, probably causes greater psychological changes, short-term and long-term than regular alcohol use. On the other hand, long-term alcohol use will do worse damage to other parts of your body, like your liver and kidneys. So they both have different downsides, but I don’t think either of them is on the same level as the “hard” drugs, as far as that goes.

The article you link to makes the case against your assertion...

In truth, these numbers do not tell us anything about the dangerousness of marijuana. They could merely reflect an increase in consumption. If more Washingtonians are smoking pot, more drivers will test positive for THC, which does not necessarily mean they are impaired.

That's because traces of THC stay in the bloodstream for up to weeks, while the intoxication lasts only a few hours.

Get enough dope in your system and you won't be standing up for anything.

That's very well said and very Conservative in the true sense of that word. President Ronald Reagan's compelling speech of 1987 is a must see for anyone doubting the effectiveness of the war against drugs. President Reagan explains that drug abuse is not a victimless crime as often claimed by the liberalertarians. And his beautiful, loving wife Nancy implores Americans to be "unyielding and inflexible in your opposition to drugs".

Bravo to the Reagans!

So you support the Wickard Commerce Clause at the expense of the Tenth Amendment. How do you justify that?
