Sure, if you can wait 9 months from April 1 for the ACA-compliant plan to take effect.

Except you can sign up only during an annual “window” but not after that, though there are many specific “hardship” exceptions that many people could fit through if they have to. For example, if one found out they were going to die without expensive treatment, it might be worth getting a temporary divorce to qualify for that exception.
