Chuck Schumer, Lamar Alexander might have solution to fixing Senate

In the next few days, the Senate will begin debate on the reauthorization of a child-care development block-grant program — a small, relatively noncontroversial program that is likely to pass.

In this case, it’s not the “what” of the effort that’s most important but the “how.” The debate is expected to take a different course, with both sides getting equal time to make arguments and offer amendments — a practice that has pretty much all but disappeared in the increasingly partisan Senate.

Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) is expected to cede control of the floor to the bill’s lead sponsors, Sens. Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) and Richard Burr (R-N.C.), who will lead the debate and allow Democrats and Republicans to introduce amendments.

More important — if it works — Reid is expected to permit more debate on other bipartisan measures on subjects ranging from sentencing overhauls to manufacturing and energy efficiency. In some small ways, the Senate may begin to look more like the great deliberative body it’s supposed to be.

Two people who get much of the credit for this development are Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), who arguably have developed the most important friendship in the Senate in recent years.

Chuck Schumer is the architect of the "increasingly partisan Senate!" But it seems he has a new pal in Lamar Alexander (who wants to be Leader if McConnell falls). Alexander is, in Schumer's words, one of "our republicans"

Reading between the lines, it looks like the democrats in the senate have started to feel the heat of their obstructionism! Isn't it nice of Harry Reid to "allow" debate and amendments in a legislative body!

Lamar Alexander is up for reelection next year. His primary is in August.

Yup. That’s exactly right.

It is too late for the desperate DIMocRATs to act civil. They must go...preferably to a prison cell for their crimes against the Constitution, against Free America and against Reason. This move is an obvious play to further confuse the uninformed voter.

If it doesn’t involve suicide vests, I don’t want to hear anything from either of those two asshats.

What, both of them are going to resign? Would be a giant leap forward.

Lamar isn’t very popular with conservative here at home. He is worried because he was running campaign ads on the radio before the end of last year.

The author of this article is completely stupid if he thinks offering equal debate on a bi-partisan bill fixes the Senate. All this means is bi-partisan amendment to spend more money and over regulated our lives.

The only bipartisan solution from Lamar and Schumer I would support is having both place nooses around their necks and stepping off a platform holding each other’s hands.

Child-care development block grant program.

Smells like some Bill Ayers smoke screen for re-education (early childhood development)

Hedley Lamar would make that snake McConnell look effective. Snitch will come out and at least huff and puff before surrendering or orchestrating the surrender behind the scenes. Hedley Lamar wouldn’t even do that before waiving the white flag.

THis is just theatrics. Reid knows he stands a good chance of loosing control of the Senate.

Now he throws out a few crumbs of cooperation, so after the change in leadership he and his gaggle of Nazis can whine to the press that the Republicans aren’t playing fair.

Go rot in the Sun Reid and take that Fraud Chuckles Schumer with you.

Ding, ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!

Purely positioning for the DEMAND that the Senate go back to the old filibuster rules.

The Repubs would be complete morons to comply. Which means that’s precisely what they’ll do.
